Unpopular opinion but I actually prefer that this is an original material. Well it was "fun" before it aired imo but the few amount of times that you'll see comments comparing scenes from the book to the drama while it was airing was quite frankly annoying 🙃🙃🙃. Sometimes it feels like some people can't fully enjoy the drama because they're so focused on comparing 😅😅. Thankfully most people seem satisfied with the adaptation but more often than not they have issues with the live adaptation. I didn't read ABAY before I watched it even though the novel was available everywhere and I'm glad that I didn't read beforehand.
It's actually more interesting this way. We can make so many theories of what is going to happen when it airs. That makes it more exciting and fun imo .

I'm loving this new direction he's taking lately with his career. Even though he's 1 of my faves, I've always felt like he took some projects that quite frankly didn't showcase him to the best of his abilities ( not his fault; the script or maybe using 2 or 3 supporting actors to promote and cutting his screentime......)which in turn led to people dragging him elsewhere for not being a good enough of an actor. ABAY and to some extent WOL was the 1st since maybe story of yanxi of palace or arsenal military academy that I've seen people ( who aren't fans per se) praising him for his acting again. Quality over quantity. It's great that now he seems to be mindful of the projects he is taking. Besides I feel like yu Zheng is more busy with his other new artist to demand too much of him now. It seems to me that he has more "freedom" now as far as choosing projects go.
