My initial thoughts on her was more like.. "back off, he's not yours so don't get in the way" kind of feeling…
What makes you think she is the most "real" character ? On the contrary, I think she is "fake" and MY can see right through her. Their fight on the rooftop confirmed that for me when she called her "two-faced". Also, her answer to the CEO was really odd when he called her nice, she said "I am not nice". We still don't know her past relationship with MY but I think the writers have softened her character for now because they want to focus on the relationship development between the leads. We already have a glimpse of what kind of person she could be. Of course she won't be the typical evil second lead we see in some dramas, I think she has a good side to her but I feel like we haven't seen her true character yet, what's deep down. But hopefully we will get to know more about their past and understand how MY feels about her.
Theory # 1Post your theories about Park Ok Ran character.
My theory: We know the song Clementine is about a man whose girlfriend drowned then he ended up with her sister and forgot all about his previous girlfriend. Let imagine that Ms Park is in fact MY’s mother sister. She was with MY’s father before the mother but then something happened (life threatening event?) and MY’s father got with MY’s mother. We know MY’s mother wasn’t emotionally stable so she must have done something bad to her sister. So years later, Ms Park came back for revenge and killed MY’s mother. KT’s mother might have been a witness to that crime so she killed her too. The father might not recognize her anymore because of the time that has passed or because of his dementia or maybe plastic surgery. I remember when KT asked who he was talking about when he said “that woman is dead but why is she here” he didn’t specifically say “my wife” right? So I was thinking maybe he is talking about someone else.
My Okay Family ! For those interested in dramas about mental disorders, I recommend you watch Just Between Lovers. This is what I wrote about it in the Recommendation section:
"The main characters of both dramas have to deal with their own emotional trauma due to a common and painful past. They grow individually and fall in love in the process. In both dramas, the cinematography is beautiful, the storyline is slow-paced but every scene is meaningful and the OST is magical. The main characters in both dramas learn to overcome their pain and build a strong relationship with themselves and others after a traumatic event. IONTBO talks about many types of mental disorders and mental illness in general whereas Just Between Lovers is more specifically about PTSD (Post-traumatic stress disorder) which is one type of mental disorder."
It's really worth watching, it's a beautiful drama that brings a lot of healing energy to the viewer. It's more slow-paced than IONTBO though.
If any of you have any more recommendation about dramas or movies, I would love to know about it, not necessarily Korean :D
My Okay family lets all pray collectively that we get a kiss on the next episode. If we start now we may accumulate enough prayers for a motel scene where MY finally gets to eat KT? :D
Since we all know we are dying for a happy ending and kiss scenes for our leads, let's switch it up and share…
I don't want to see KY leaving MY when the truth about this mother's death is revealed. I feel like she will be the one leaving if ever one of her parents is responsible but I wish KY stays with her.
silly question here - when did Gang Tae started to have feelings for MoYoung?
I think he never stopped loving the little girl and when he saw the woman’s eyes, everything came back gradually. When she asked in episode 6, if he doesn’t have feelings for her anymore, he didn’t answer. So my guess is he always had feelings for her, each went their separate ways and they met again with KY still having these feelings.
This episode was so precious. It teaches us many things about healing.
Sometimes you have to let go of things you thought you could never let go of or that are too hard to let go of, for you to find peace within yourself. No matter how long you have been bearing the pain, you have to forgive yourself for your own mistakes or other's shortcomings. And sometimes, you need help from others to achieve that.
The ajumma was blaming herself for being so harsh on her daughter and it weighted on her for so many years. I particularly loved the scene where MY takes the coat from her. It shows the power of letting go of things that don't belong with us anymore. I also loved the scene where MY told her father that she was different from her mother and then cuts her hair. It shows us that healing is a process, it takes the time it takes but it always start with you taking that first step. The look in her eyes when she looked at the mirror was so powerful. Also, I loved, loved, loved how KT was taking care of her every.single.time.
KT on the other hand, resented his mother for not getting enough love when all she did was try her best to love him as much as she could. "Mothers are sinners", indeed. We expect so much from our mothers and want them to be perfect. To love us perfectly. But mothers make mistakes too. Because someone doesn't love you the way you want them to, doesn't mean they don't. KT's mom loved him in her own way. But all KT could see was her love for ST and now realizes that he didn't appreciate her enough. This scene was truly heartbreaking.
Another magical thing is that all the healing process KT is going through is thanks to MY's books. Because of the way she sees the world, he gradually stops suppressing himself and start looking deep down at his own feelings. Who is who's safety pin now ?
