Undetailed Episode 7 spoiler after first paragraph and break

Earth's popularity is interesting. I have mainly seen him in this and tale of a thousand stars. I'm not sold lol. Its even less age and more just both times being an emotionally stunted man holding a relationship back lol. It feels like this show was BEGGING for him to be mature enough to go to therapy and to shift focus from the main couple by episode 6. It kinda ruined both characters because it feels less like Earth's partner wasn't trying to break down someone's walls and more throwing himself at someone who simply isn't worth pursuing.
The shows was SCREAMING for some hard editing there. IDK if it is based on a novel but sheesh.

_____

The "It's hard enough being born poor but now you're gay" from a gay character was HILARIOUS on so many many levels.

Like I literally paused and started laughing at that in context and out.

While this is an interesting show, I don't think they had the range to convincingly pull that plotline and attitude out of nowhere in the penultimate episode.

The quality is going up but the decent shows are def in the minority, it is getting harder to trust MDL ratings…
I misstated what I should have said, for clarity, I'm not saying one should have priority.

I'm saying the score being so high is weird because its not at all a show without criticism. Most people will admit its the "BL" aspect is not a priority, but its one of the highest rated ones on the site.

I don't think all shows need to be fast paced, I just wonder if that show in particular is rated highly because it has a minor BL subplot sprinkled in.

Thats kind of all. I personally just didn't feel like the acting or plot were interesting enough, and a slow burn with no "burn" just feels worse when you get there.

Suddenly everyone is expecting deep sinister plots and intense drama from a genre that has given us almost a decade…
The quality is going up but the decent shows are def in the minority, it is getting harder to trust MDL ratings tho. Some shows like tale of a thousand stars are kinda slow to be rated so highly and universally.

This comment is so interesting. I really did not like tale of a thousand stars as much as everyone else did. This…
A tale of a thousand stars had an enormous amount of deadtime and the romance was underbaked. A shorter runtime helps me for that kind of story. Especially when the main reason I watched it was it being a BL show. I would have been less let down by the kiss being the end of a hour and a half movie than a 10 episode show. The story itself wasn't the most original and some character motivations made 0 sense but that show got so much praise heaped on it I was left incredibly let down by both the romance and the actual story.

Of course my opinion, and nothing wrong with people loving those. I just come to BL for things I can't find in other media.
So when its a show sold on a premise i've personally seen but has a BL sprinkled on top, I want that aspect to be the driving reason for a watch, not an ending kiss, or in this case, a brief few moments after 10+ hours

Can’t believe I watched two shows this year where a spoiled rich college student with a heart condition meets…
This comment is so interesting. I really did not like tale of a thousand stars as much as everyone else did. This honestly seals the deal of me stopping while I'm ahead 1 episode in. A tale of a thousand stars was a bit too glacially paced for me and I like the aspects of a relationship dealt with in the show, not "sealed with a kiss" that takes like 12 episodes to happen lol.

Using the reviews and general idea of plot, it feels like this show and that one both would just be stronger as films.

Wow. This show is really highly rated, 8.8 is NUTS. I usually just use this site to find new shows, never making an account to comment. I can't help but wonder if this is rated so highly because it's a Korean drama or not because the middle is more than slow, its super frustrating. Ive seen so many better shows not really get out of the 6-8.1 area and this one is weird. Either way I'm glad so many people enjoyed this but it has some flaws I can't look past. I'm glad it seems like a ton of people seemed to have enjoyed it a lot I guess.

The protagonist acts like a toddler. I think they were aiming for someone with social ineptitude whether from a genetic situation or mood disorder or something instead I just constantly feel like I'm watching a toddler (note not a confused 18 year old, usually they are more impulsive or moody or angsty) just stumble around as every character has to force themselves to interact with him to remain relevant to the plot. The infantilizing just gets stronger each episode, to the point where I'm starting to feel like the guy who didn't understand the concept of friendship suddenly just falls in love with whichever of these two is in the room. I do get these shows are written for female audiences and I'm not the target (as a gay man, i usually watch these and suspend so much disbelief to get through) but something about the way the protagonists acts like he does rubs me wrong. It seems like he's looking for a caretaker instead of a relationship.

It seems to only get worse as more episodes go on. I see the ratings talk about this turning around slightly closer to the end.

I get fluffy and I do love some fluff, but this seems less fluff and more just like stuffing, bad pacing and the protagonist taking "shy, loner" and going more for "toddler or alien placed into 18 year olds body left to find a mate".

I can't tell if the script is the issue (cherry magic made the loner thing work and had character development for example, here I have nothing), the acting or some weird combo of both. The show is so slow there is 0 reason the protagonist has no actual backstory 70% of the episodes in. I

Having read a lot of comments it seems like I'm far in the minority here.
