Male characters tend to be better written compared to female characters in general. I think the more interesting female villains I seen are Mi Shil in Queen Seon Duk and Choi Myung Hee in Vincenzo.
I have the impression that not many people follows the work of this writer and director. In their dramas normally their main focus aren't the plotline or the romance but to show bits of slice of life, that's why it looks like the story doesn't progress.
I think the main diference with the first season is that the stories are sadder and in the first season they also have the bits of memories from the past.
I'm watching the episode 7 and I kinda dislike the FL. She's a detective and she is trying to trigger a possible criminal with a mental disorder while being alone with him.
The concept is interesting but I would have preferred if it was more philosophical in terms of death or doom. For what I seeing, the story would focus more on the romance than explaining why the ML thinks humanity have to be destroyed.
