All I got to say is holy crap it's 60 episodes long... I've seen the movie and a far shorter series around 35 episodes. I shudder to think how this story can actually stretch to 60 episodes. I actually fell alseep half way through episode 1... So slow moving... I might give this another go later on, but for now I'll put my glasses down.

I only watched this because Gong Mi was in it as the lead. The story wasn't great. Luckily it was only 36 episodes long so I managed to hang in there till the end. The end to me didn't make a whole lot of sense but neither did much of the plot lines. Lol

These days it's tough committing to a Chinese drama as they are 50+ episodes long usually. The series had plenty of potential and had a great cast. Unfortunately the Director decided to tamper way too much with the story and the bits added and the changes to the Gu Long novel I really hated. The novel is pretty good, so I don't understand the need to change the story so much. At least I discovered Gong Mi from watching the series. Absolutely loved her has Ding Ling Long. Sadly this series missed the mark for me.
On Noble Aspirations Season 2 Jun 26, 2020
I honestly didn't mind Season 2 although it's a bit weird that it was such a short season with just 18 episodes. I loved the cast and characters which is why I kept watching. Yang Zi's portrayl of Lu Xueqi is why I kept watching the whole series. The ending was a bit of a cliffhanger which was disappointing. But it's an unfinished story... I heard Season 3 may be an entirely different cast. That would be pretty shocking! I'd revolt if that happens. But so much time has passed by now that it would be impossible to bring the original cast back :-(

I watched this after Eternal Love. I've now become a fan of Yang Mi as well as Yang Zi. Yang Mi was so great during this series from playing a innocent young girl to one who had to undergo a lot of suffering and betrayal. Ethan Juan is the perfect male lead and had great chemistry. Ethan reminds me a lot of Miu Kiu Wai from the old TVB Hong Kong drama series days. I'm surprised Ethan hasn't been casted in a role like Chu Liu Xiang before... The supporting cast was also excellent with Leon Lai playing Zhong Yue being my favourite side character. However, I'm not used to these marathon 66 episode series. I thought the series could have been around 55 episodes with tighter cutting. But anyway still a 8.5/10 from me.

Well this is the first Chinese drama I've watched in a while. My expectations were raised after I saw it had 58 billion viewers and a rating of 9.8/10. I didn't disappoint me and lived up to expectations, which is rare. I love everything about this series from the storyline, to the cast, to the costumes, to the music. The ending song is something to behold. The last time I saw Zhang Mi was when she played Guo Xiang in the Return of the Condor Heroes and she's grown as an actress since then. Mark Chao was perfect as Mo Yuan and Ye Hua. I did feel for the character of Mo Yuan though. Poor dude without giving away any spoilers... I heard the sequel is solely based on the romance between the characters of Dong Hua Di Jin and Bai Feng Jiu... Oh god forbid, LOL. I found them to be rather uninteresting and had to put up with them for a large part of the 58 episodes. Their own story is 56 episodes alone. Count me out of watching that sequel!!!

What is the difference between 60 and 63 episodes version? I'm currently watching 60 episodes version on Viki…
No difference. 63 episodes for TV which you get 40 mins per episode. 60 episodes for DVD of 45 mins to save on discs. Total length the same.

I watched The Legend of Chusen (also called Noble Aspirations) before watching Ashes of Love. This is because I became a fan of Zhang Zi. She is such a great actress. Her character, Lu Xueqi, in The Legend of Chusen is such a cold character and Jin Mi is totally different. Naive and full of life. This shows Yang Zi is really versatile. The costumes and music for Ashes of Love were good. But I must admit I only enjoyed it up to about episode 35. After that it's just full of schemes and blackmail... I felt 63 episodes to be too long for the storyline they had. The series could have been trimmed to 45-50 episodes easily. Too much screen time for characters like Run Yu, Liu Ying and Mu Chi. One of my favourite characters when watching this series other than the main ones was Chief Zhang of the Floral Relm. I heard great things about Ashes of Love prior to watching it. But I've only given it 6.5/10 as it failed to live up to my expectations to a large degree.

I loved this series. It's one I've watched over 3 times in full. Great soundtrack, visuals, and a good storyline. A stunning cast as well. I didn't mind that they used similar costumes to The Hobbit that was used for the Elves for the Ice Tribe. I also didn't mind the wigs for the Fire Tribe. It was something different. Madina Mehmet who plays Princess Lan Shang would have made a good casting choice for the character of Diao Chan in Romance of the Three Kingdoms. My favourite characters were Ying Kong Shi and Yan Da.

I watched all 55 episodes of Season 1 and all 18 episodes of Season 2 of The Legend of Chusen. Overall it was a good series but incomplete... It had a great cast and great costumes. I thought it was a well made series. Yang Zi as Lu Xueqi kept me going in the series. Though her relationship with Zhang Xiao Fan wasn't really on show in the series. That annoyed me a bit as she is the lead female character in the novel. Despite being incomplete I'd still recommend the series as one to watch. I can't see Season 3 happening with the same cast though. Which will be unfortunate.
