Fandom is starting to get the translation out there. This is a pretty close translation of HT and YSG "first time". The show did not go into this much detail (for good reason).

I would say, no. The book really deals with HT mourning. There isn't any reference or conversations around relationships, other than HT relationship with YSG. The book ends with HT in his car at the stop light reflecting on the many "That day" he and YSG shared; which the show did a good job on. To me, this was more logical "ending".

Well said! I read the book and we actually got some great gems from the show. The book did not do a great job with dialogue between the characters especially, tender moments between the couples and the relationship between the friends. I will say, how HT mourned and started wanting to "live" again made more sense to me in the book. It was more realistic. I think the screenwriter wanted to end the story without the prospects of the telling the story of the last chapter "IF"; which is a shame because it could have elevated this show. even more! The actors were so amazing and gave the book life!

If you want a happy ending, support the author and buy the book.
