It's like a military law thing, orders have to be followed no matter what. Orders were for "Yan Zheng" to go to fight, by chance if they find out he's not there, he would be treated as a soldier who went against orders and "ran away", which would mean being executed as a result as mentioned in ep.24
I guess she figured that going in place of him might work since they count numbers when making sure all the soldiers are there and not remember faces, so she would be able to "replace" him and avoid Yan Zheng being punished
