First of all, she is the only one that can see him in the past and interact dith him. It spiked his curiosity and interest. Then, she flirted and played with him at first and it did things to him. Then, he saw that she is broken like him, and kind with his daughter and family and smart. Plus, she awoke him from his hell and they experienced similar things. So I think there are plenty reasons. When in rom com usually they fell in love with no reasons at all.
I think that the world turn in colour and this is what will allow him to save her. Because now he can open the doors of the high school and the room she's prisoner in. Before he just wasn't able to save her. But now he can be burnt.
