I thought it was to show that FL doesn't take things seriously or doesn't realise the seriousness of what is happening. That's why she collapses at the end of the episode. Everything is becoming real at once in her head. That's my take and that's why it didn't bother me. I thought it was odd that she didn't break down sooner.
