The producer or writer made a damn stupid mistake, the drama could end perfectly well in episode 22 or even 23…
The thing is...they entirely covered book 1 with the first season. Book 1 also ended with the car stash. There's still the second book for season 2, I believe they wanted to cover the full story this time.
