You can definitely watch Southern anecdote by itself. All the drama adaptations so far can be watched as standalones. Southern anecdote is a spin-off story that happens way before wuxie is alive

The dramas are all based on book series called daomu biji , it's a tomb raiding series. Its kinda of weird because each drama has different casts and adapts different books. (Luhan has also played wuxie before in a movie )
He was first cast as a young wuxie in adventure behind the door but I think the author wanted to redo the whole series with a set cast (cause each drama adaptation had different cast and some dramas didn't stay true to the books ) so he was casted again as wuxie in time raiders - where he's the main character which is an adaption of the first book and the next season will probably be filmed in April. Southern anecdote and mystic nine are just prequels (set in the past ) and he only has small cameos in them as wuxie
Also fun fact a lot of famous actors have been in daomu biji adaptations like Hou minghao (he played wuxie before), Ding Yu Xi , Liu Xue Yi, Cheng yi , Leo, Liu yuning and Luhan.
The dancing in the opening alone made this a 10/10 for me , I love that at the end of the 12 eps during the credits all the supporting cast freestyled as well

Yep there is a high chance of legend of the rosy clouds airing where he plays a supporting role, some of his other dramas (burning frost and SYLM ) are finished but no rumours of release dates for them
