The reviews said a lot was cut, especially the emotional scenes maybe that's why the story felt poor because it was missing too much

Do you have any specific preference/genres you prefer ?
For thriller I'd say Maze runner (very easy to read and shorter), for fantasy maybe Percy Jackson and for mystery I can't think of any famous books that are short and easy to read. Perhaps you can try hunger games, it is very famous
