For those wondering : the book got an official translation back in 2021 and I bought it (it was only ebook ver not physical ver) but the site no longer exists since they stopped translating danmei BUT the good news is that another publisher (ViaLactea) is going to publish it again so yay

I felt the same sadly :( I LOVED them in Love In The Moonlight so I was excited about their new series but the story could have been so much better idk.. I think it's the writing, it seems to me that they had a good idea but didn't know what to do with the plot ?
And I also had a hard time believing in their love because their relationship lacks development for me I just couldn't get into it as I have a hard time understanding why they fell in love in the first place haha. BUT I hope to see them again in another series next year<3 !

well.. I don't see the point in cutting the dark parts as it is the core of the story. If you adapt a story then you have to adapt it as a whole not as something underwhelming. If you take away what a scum Fan Xiao really is and all the very bad things he did to You Shulang then what's the point ?
Four Faced Buddha was meant to be dark and cutting those parts make no sense at all.
Sure, some people can't handle reading psychologically dark stories but you can just not read or watch it but saying "cut some parts so everyone can enjoy it is fair enough" sorry but NOPE. If you adapt a story, adapt it whole not just the parts you enjoy.
Anyways, this LA does not do justice to the novel, that's all and it's my own opinion as someone who read the novel and listened to the ad.
