SY’s whole issue with EJ and that guy getting back together felt more about the fact that she couldn’t stand the idea of EJ being happy while she wasn’t especially since she “liked him first.” The irony is that even when they didn’t date again, she was still unhappy. What she really wanted was for EJ to feel just as hurt and miserable as she did. I'm glad EJ didn't date him again because he deceived her and got swayed. EJ never deserved that.
The writer’s decision to make her sick and kill her off at the end doesn’t erase the selfishness and toxicity she displayed throughout the story. To me, SY wasn’t a true friend to EJ at all. Instead, she was a draining presence in her life, more like a weight holding her back. She even went as far as using her illness to emotionally manipulate EJ, which makes her behavior all the more manipulative and unfair.
