What @staywithme20four7 meant was that Hye-ri seems to have some intellectual disability so she has mental age of a child. This was heavily hinted in 4th episode ending. While I am ok with them having a relationship, I do not like the kdrama is handling it. The subtle physical energy is weird. Like the first kiss or 2nd ML saying he wants to wake up next to her next time. Had he said things like, I like being with u and hope u won't run from me, that would be romantic and realistic for me. But it seems 2nd ML is rushing it a little or the drama team just want to get more viewers. Idk. Just seems odd. Hopefully this is all me just overthinking because I doubt they would explore the sexuality too much. I hope so. Hope they make it make sense soon.

Agreed the 2nd pairing seems too fairy-tale like and I did not like when the 2nd ML said he wants to wake up with her next time. I mean u got to know her for how many days again, Mr 2nd ML?? Then again this might be a tactic for them to bring in more audience. But plot wise, kiss with 1st and 2nd ML both felt wrong to me. Hye-Ri definitely has some sort of intellectual disability. Yes! Agreed 100%. Now it feels like maybe she was miscasted in earlier roles and this kind suits her a lot more. Tsundere and sassy. This is my fav character she played till date.

IKR in Hotel Del Luna the chemistry and plotline with 2nd ML was far better especially given their yearning and history. While I did like ML but their relationship seemed off to me.

This drama is everything I needed. Thriller ✅ Romance ✅ Little political ✅Interesting sides kicks ✅ Justice for victims by torturing guilty party exactly as they tortured victims (fav part)✅✅✅ Pretty cast ✅ Fantasy ✅ Leads u to think of lacking laws ✅ The list goes on. I never thought I will see Park Shin Hye in these roles but whoever casted her - Thank you Best choice💯 Sweet face acting evil at its best. While the CGI could be better (yes, you Spiderman's Dr Octavius like Baebel and the door to hell with weird faces??), but I am not complaining because the show more than makes up for it. I am really curious what will happen next. Will Justicia die because of love?

Tbh, I do not know too many details about the case. My comment was a reply to why people seem to dislike ML character too much without giving the character a chance to explain his side of the story. It was direct response to OP's comment "most people started this drama with the hope that the male lead was scum". Also, we do not know the case 1st hand and so should not make comments on either side, the actor and the victim both should not be discussed imo. For me personally, I believe that if there is god then there will be justice for whichever side might be the victim. We should leave it to their country's legal system as well as god's impartial justice. Other than that, I am enjoying the show. The acting especially by FL is very grounded. I like that there is not much bgm so we can hear realistic sounds live in a movie. Makes it more authentic to me. I hope everyone will focus on the story rather than individual actors.

I think the reason why ppl seem to hate ML has more to with the actor than character, which is sad. I read several comments saying "he was accused of rape and got away with light punishment while victim got a defamation case with restrictions on travel limiting her job prospects". This seem to be the primary reason for the harsh judgement from viewers. That also seems to be why the ratings are so low despite the show being awesome. Given SK's poor laws on protecting women against crime and strong defamation cases seems to only add oil to the fire. And of course the cancel culture. Idk and idc who is in the wrong. Just here to enjoy the show. Rest god can take care.

In the sea of comments with wanting "rom-com", I prefer to understand the characters' actions and reasoning more because that is what makes it relatable and realistic. I am so far liking how they are portraying depression. It is very realistic. Ppl seemed to have expected sunshine and rainbows from this show but this ain't just that. It is so much more. It is raw in dealing with familial relationships. It is not fluffy like many hoped but not every single rom com needs to be fluffy. Some can be 50-50. I think both the couples with older generation couples provide a nice balance for the darker themes. Imo, the pacing is great and does not drag. Some called it repetitive but I did not find anything repeating again. I guess people can move to a different drama if they prefer more fluff rather than commenting here and make the most efficient use of everyone's time. Even though the story is nothing absolutely brand new, it does have cliché but the way it is portrayed tugs at my heart in a way that is difficult to understand. FL's family is super-familiar and while imperfect it is absolutely relatable. Not telling family u r sick even though u might die, yes that too. Idk how ppl can't find it relatable. Is everyone always 100% logical all the time!? R they never emotional or impulsive? FL is not over the top but just perfectly imperfect. I like the writing and want to see more dramas with flawed MCs not a Mary Sue or claimed to be 'awesome' but turns bland half-way through drama FL (**cough** some fluffy girlies). I am tired of the badass kind who r just trying to be masculine. This one has a nice blend. Why can't ppl accept it? Also, ppl calling the ML a red flag for looking at the envelope with FL test results, I have one question. If ever your parents/sibling/best friend fell it but don't tell what's wrong, would u really not do this!? R u kidding me? I would 100% do it because I am close enough to them and this concerns their safety and health. So idk when everything became red and green flag without context. The entire comment section is becoming so skewed... In the middle all this, I saw @Mullagarey post and it gives me a little hope for MDL. Thank you so much.

Ps for the ppl who wanted all sunshine and rainbow kinda fluff - Life is hard. Relationships are hard. It will be sunny but it will rain. It won't be a smooth sail. This is a healing drama. To heal, one must have scars. So please understand that this is as advertised : )

Pretty sure FL lied to ML that she does not like him because she wants him to have a "healthy" partner. I think they will reveal it in next episode

This! Thank you so much for saying this. I can speak 5 languages to varying degree and learnt English from a very young as my 3rd language. I am appalled how many English speakers want the FL or Chris to be dubbed! Like seriously that is the problem that is being addressed in the drama, my dear. That is what FL faced. 100% of my Asian (any type) faced this on multiple occasions. I am tired of everyone pointing at her accent. Guess what? When u speak 1 primary language u develop accent. Why is it such a difficult topic to grasp. I have seen foreigners trying to speak my first and second languages and fail miserably, hell they can't even pronounce my name correctly. But I never discouraged them. I was always open and happy that they even tried. It made me happy and not judgemental. No language or individual is above anyone in the world. So please just respect and move on!! This just proves the point the drama is trying to make. Duh. If you still have an issue, turn on English [CC] like the rest of the world ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

<3 You will find immense strength in yourself that you did not know existed. Trust me, it's not pretty and you will have days when you will stumble and fall. But always remember how far you have come from the starting point because that is your baseline. After a while, you will bouncing back to normal more easily even when you slip into habits or spiral. And that is what it is all about. So every progress however small is amazing and you should be proud of yourself <3
It took me a hell lot of strength from friends, family, professionals and most of all myself. But I am still getting over it. It has been 2 years so I am still healing from it all.

I understand that you have a preference for characters who actively make their own choices, and that’s a valid perspective as well. Many viewers resonate with stories where characters have more control over their fate, and I respect that. For me, though, the unpredictability of life and the challenges it throws at us can also make for compelling storytelling.

Many K-dramas tend to focus more on external circumstances shaping a character’s journey rather than the character making proactive choices, which can indeed feel frustrating if you’re looking for stories about personal agency. However, I believe this approach can also reflect a different kind of reality. Life is often unpredictable and sometimes forces us into situations beyond our control. The car accident in this drama, for example, is a sudden event that abruptly and drastically alters the ML’s path. It might seem like an arbitrary plot device, but it also mirrors the harshness and unfairness of real life where things don’t always go as planned, and we’re left to pick up the pieces and move forward. Because sometimes, shit happens!

Typically, the K-dramas I’ve watched have left me more traumatized (k-trauma) rather than addressing any type of traumatic themes, haha. I am of course not talking about criminal dramas like Witch's court. In general, not many dramas of this nature are aired in romcom world. So, I for one am glad they’re trying something different with this one by exploring lesser-discussed themes.


As for the FL leaving her fiancé or quitting her job, I think there’s cultural context at play. In many Asian societies, including Korea, the idea of leaving a partner or a job without a significant reason (like infidelity or finding a better paying job) can be frowned upon and isn’t always depicted positively in media as well. So while there are series that show people that have grown apart over time, had different expectations or simply realized marriage wasn't what she wanted, it is lesser accepted by the Asian audience unless it has a great plot/acting or both lol. These dramas often reflect societal norms and expectations, which can differ greatly from Western narratives where personal fulfillment is frequently prioritized over societal obligations. Not saying one is better than other just that they are different and should not be compared.

There’s a saying: “You can’t have an easy life and a great character.” It means that personal development often comes through facing challenges and situations beyond our control. I disagree with the idea that the characters were merely making choices forced upon them by circumstances. They were reacting to their situations, and while they couldn’t change those circumstances, they could grow from them. That’s what truly enriches us—the experiences we go through and how we evolve as individuals. Ultimately, these experiences help us become better people. So I strongly disagree with the idea that the characters lack agency. What even is external and what is internal. Both are not mutually exclusive. This seems like a story of finding oneself. While yeah the initial reasoning might be different, each comes from within and surroundings up to some varying degrees, if you know what I mean.

Remember, the principle from FL's school said something similar. She said that she feared how FL will face adversities in life since she has never had to face them much. But she is glad that she can do it now. To me this sounds like FL has gained valuable experience in life and is in the process to be in control of her life again. She seems like a responsible adult who is making decisions in her life based on her present circumstances that she believes are favourable to her in future. This may or may not turn out to be the best in future but who has seen the future anyway. E.g. she felt coming home was safe so she did. That is not succumbing to circumstance that is knowing what is best for you and when.

Your perspective on character-driven choices is interesting, but I think it’s also worth recognizing that different cultures and societies have different values and ways of storytelling. It’s normal to have a disconnect when our cultural experiences don’t align with what we see on screen. That said, diversity in storytelling is what makes dramas compelling for different audiences, and it’s okay to have different preferences. Let’s appreciate that we can see these narratives from different viewpoints and maybe even learn from them.

Ultimately, it’s all about enjoying the stories that resonate with us. I’m glad you shared your thoughts, and I hope we can continue to enjoy these dramas, even if we see them in different lights. :)
