I think it's general consensus that the second arc was definitely weaker. Even though I gave it a high score, it was primarily for that first arc and how certain characters stuck to their promises like ML with his revenge that he would just not back down from he lived, breathed, ate it. I really like your review and it made me actually realize that when I was writing my own, I didn't refer to DW as SMZ not once. Just because that rebirth of hers just didn't seem to stick with me.
I hope they change the title here soon because it’s really veil of shadows. This current one is the first title, but even GJM our pain in the butt director has it as Veil of shadows and not painted skin. So if all the posters say it, it should be the official title.

They cut a lot of scenes, which doesn’t make sense at all considering they actually upped the number of episodes plus the extra episode. They could’ve kept so many scenes. Damn shame.
