I agree with that. I have a feeling that's exactly why they're doing that. And it's sort of what AJTL did as well. Start off with some comedy, romantic, goofy stuff and then just annihilate all the characters and leave the audience in shock and despair. Though I have to say for this one, we know there's going to be a high body count, but I don't know whether they're going to literally kill off everybody.

No, the staff are volunteers too, but they're official volunteers. They have like a channel on discord where they all gather and work out who approves which section and so forth.
