Jin Zhao’s father is not simply an imperfect or clumsy man.He is the very example of a derelict parent, whose…
I agree with you, but you seem to have read the novel and maybe more is explained about the man than what we see. He is not a good father even his new wife is a better mom than he is because it was Jay-Z and his friends that got enough money for his half sister‘s surgery the father didn’t do anything. It’s JZ who always has to bail the father out of his alcoholic binge. That’s the dark side of it of course. I’m not excusing him and his character for not being who he should’ve been to JZ growing up or even now.
That said, JZ developed into a strong man that despite all his past problems and everything he had to go through because of his father or otherwise, from external forces is still a kind and gentle soul he’s not repeating the cycle. He’s not an alcoholic. He knows his responsibilities. Hell he’s even working undercover to bring down some shady people by putting his own life on the line. His father doesn’t deserve that credit no but those little portions is what we see and that’s all we can do is with what we see. His dereliction as a father is what he does every day by hitting the bottle. But if you think about it, FL‘s mom isn’t much better no she’s not an alcoholic, but she was pretty biased against JZ as well even from early childhood she was ready to throw him out on the street again. She hasn’t cared about that kid and how do you do that? She can blame the father sure but the marriage failed because of the both of them not just him. JZ is the victim in all of this, but he chose to grow up not as a victim, but do whatever it takes to get somewhere. If we start looking at this show as oh bad father and that’s it then we forget about the true meaning of this show. It’s about the leads and their lives and not repeating the mistakes of the past generation. And loving each other, despite the odds against them. Plus, my original comment was not solely about dad but also about how I like the racing aspects of it.
Same, i actually really like the racing theme and it's so rare or even non existent to have this, i really like…
Yeah, I don’t know anything about cars either how to fix them or modify them or anything of that nature so it’s really cool that they go in such great detail about it. It’s not something I’ll remember but in this series, at least it’s good lol.
I kind of love them! I can see them being frenemies, lol. And I actually really liked the chemistry between him…
I don’t think he is. He worries about the ML. Makes sure the ML is getting proper rust after a race like that you could see he’s concerned. I don’t think they are an enemies. I think they are rivals on the track but that’s about it when it comes to if you wanna call it negativity which I don’t even call it that because rivals can be friends as well.
I LOVED that whole sequence! I got teary when Zhao came to him, troubled, and his Dad intuited what was wrong…
Exactly they don’t have a lot of money. They’re not rich they’re they’re not this or that but what they have are great hearts. The little sister the stepmom. Love doesn’t require to live in a massive mansion. You can live just humbly like they are but have just that family love and acceptance that everyone always yearns for.
Also, that Lin Mike Angelo guy is starting to grow on me. I don’t think he’s a bad guy like the rest of that group. I just think he’s very much into racing and being rich. The banter between him and ML is just really funny.

Very glad I’m not in the minority then. And the fact that he continues to teach him as the episodes proceed is also pretty awesome I think. He’s still an alcoholic. He’s absolutely imperfect. Everyone in the series is. But that’s what makes it more real. If you stick perfect characters into a series, it’ll look very fake and this doesn’t. A lot of series don’t but this one because it’s so raw and so edgy showing those imperfections and yet the love behind them is very telling and very good.
I don’t know about the rest of you guys. I’m not just enjoying the chemistry between the leads, but I really like the way dad teaches adopted son about how to make his car better and faster without taking shortcuts or other things. I like the lessons I like how he puts them into use because he’s a smart guy and I like the racing. The boxing was cool while it lasted, but obviously we’re about racing here and I find that awesome as well. I don’t watch racing in general when they have like NASCAR or whatever but in like a series like this, I think it’s awesome. But I think the best parts are when an old school racer from the 90s or early 2000s whatever teaches the adopted son how to do things the right way. I know I’m probably I’m in the minority in this, but I think it’s pretty cool.
I also hope that the supporting cast of Casper the friendly ghost blonde guy and the snake chick take a backseat. I’m tired of them and that whole family and their garbage I know he’s undercover and shit but move on from them and focus on what we need to focus on.
it would have been so great and beautiful to see this scene but unfortunately here we are again
I agree I think that that scene would’ve been very important in the last episode like after they exchange the promise rings do another time. Skip and just show that portion you don’t have to do a wedding no problem. But they obviously filmed it since I mean, there’s a whole conversation and everything. It’s not just like one shot of him picking up his daughter from school. It’s a whole Convo with mom and dad and the kid and what not.
I’m going to start this today finally and I have a lot to catch up on. Apparently this thing has a lot of moving parts and the comment section is very active and I’m glad you guys are telling us what you see and your opinions. I will be very intrigued to see how this plays out will catch up obviously in a few days as I’m not planning to watch 12 episodes in one lol.
If you have the link that included the daughter & what other drama are you also watching right now? Please…
It does. There’s obvious chemistry between the leads the first three episodes. It seems like he doesn’t care much but he does and the way he treats her is more from the circumstances not because he wants to.
Review is up. Thank you to all Who chatted with me in this comment section. I look forward to speaking with you in future dramas; take care and stay blessed. 😇
