The character ChangGe is so intriguing and complex. It's not a straight forward character of what you see is what you get like in most C drama heroine. Her character make us think, feel, make us question her decision or her actions, make us live thru her experiences etc.
Everywhere she goes, she collects lambs ... in the end becomes her troupe and family. She set out to be alone but her lambs stick to her like glue being A'Sun the stickiest bubble gum. Hahahaha
Ooo...so lovely. Video clip on how music ost of The Long Ballad come about, what the producers wanted to give to audiences... Too long and too hard for me to translate. Basically they don't want to the music score to follow the tradition costume drama using traditional Chinese music. I think they wantbto blend old and young music feel to the drama. Nothing to feel sorry for A'Sun. He put himself n his Eagle Division at risk on his own. You pointed out that ChangGe never considered his feelings and kindness towards her. Did ChangGe asked all that from A'Sun? No. A'Sun love for ChangGe is one sided and is his own feelings. Don't forget ChangGe was his slave and A'Sun is her enemy, enemy of Tang. ChangGe never implicated A'Sun and his division. She acted on her own and even disassociated herself in front of Khan n SheEr so that A'Sun and his division will not be punished for whatever she did. What did A'Sun did? He openly showed Khan and SheEr that ChangGe means something to him putting himself in jeopardy. ChangGe saved A'Sun also a few times. Did A'Sun respect and listen to her wishes or wants? No. He still force his way into her affairs. At the end, it is ChangGe who went and saved A'Sun n risk her life by luring SheEr men away so that Mujin can bring him back to his camp.

since ep 9, really? she did so much in the suzhou arc.
We as viewers have the privilege to see the whole picture and what the other is planning or thinking. Put yourself in her shoes ... you are 15 or 16 yrs old, lost everything, stuck in enemy camp n is their slave, you saw this old uncle who was your father's loyal general and his old uncle treated with you with lots of love since you were little. This uncle is now being held hostage by the great khan, being tortured, and Khan is forcing him to betray the Tang nation. Must understand that this General is not any old general. He is a great General who is a great strategist and highly regarded General of great skill ... even the Great Khan admired him and wants him to serve him to conquer Tang. In view of this, how can she not try to save the old general? She knows it is suicidal but she is willing to risk her life for it rather than be a coward and do nothing. If she can save him, great. If she can't, at least they die honourably. Just think, she is thinking all this with a 15 year old brain with emotional mess, survival guilt, etc. She knows this is suicidal mission so she told A'Sun not to stop her nor associate with her. She cut ties with A'Sun and his division in front of Great Khan and SheEr to keep them safe from her mission. Unfortunately she didn't count of Sui Princess to be cunning and sly. Sui Princess prey on her naivety and compassion as disposed royal just like her ... played the victim sympathising with ChangGe cause. ChangGe us afterall 15 and cannot see thru Sui Princess cunningness. Even the great Khan nor A'Sun saw it, how can ChangGe see it.
ChangGe didn't cause the death of Alir directly nor indirectly. Alir death was a calculated move by the Princess. Even if ChangGe didn't try to save the General, Alir will still die one way or the other under different circumstances. A'Sun is the one who put Eagle Division at risk. She puts other people's life above hers whenever she sees others in danger. If she were to sees A'Sun men in danger, she will not hesitate to sacrifice her life to save them. She even told A'Sun men to surrender and not fight knowing that they won't be harmed. She lured SheEr men to her as she knows they only wanted her head.
There's a saying...people tend to remember your faults and mistakes more than your good deeds, contributions or your sacrifices. ChangGe heroism is not noticeable. It's very subtle and intangible ... cannot see on the surface and in the face.
Remember she is after all a 15 year old ex Princess who hasn't much contact with cunning people or worldly people like A'Sun, Great Khan, Princess Sui nor her uncle. She was thrown into all this overnight, so her learning curve is pretty amazing ... taking into account that she is a broken doll too with a fugitive tag on her head, with no purpose in life to live except to avenge her family (her sole reason for living). Once her sole reason is taken away, she has nothing to live for. And she learns from her mistakes, for each mistakes she made, she is willing to sacrifice her life to make up for it. We see all in her eyes and her comportment :
- Princess : eyes bright and lively, full of love and joy - Disposed princess: eyes dimmed a little, trying to figure out what to do next. Eyes fiery with revenge in mind only - Governor arc: eyes a little brighter again basking in the love and warmth of Governor family ... thought she found another place called home. Ah Dou death: Her eyes dimmed a little again. Why people she loves and cared for died again. Anger and hatred for Ashile tribe fueled in her eyes. Her determination n focus to kill the guy who killed Ah Dou showed in her eyes. Governor n wife's death: her eyes dimmed with great sadness again, she questioned his sacrifices... is it worth it? Will they even know or remember your great sacrifices for them, will they even thank you? Meeting A'Sun on battlefield: Her eyes dimmed further ... the great sense of betrayal felt like sword piercing her heart again ... she don't understand why people she cared for betrayed her again. We see the tears that she fought hard to control from falling from her eyes. Tied to stake: she is like a living dead... letting people just throw rotten vegetables her without a fight. HaoDou asked the same question she asked the Governor, "Is it worth it?" Her answer is Yes even at expense of being misunderstood. As long as she knows she did right and honourable, will do. She starts to question her purpose of living and still alive after all these trials ... why, what ...when she finally found her enlightenment, we see the dark clouds in her eyes were lifted and her eyes shines again.
Sorry for the long post. I just feel that ChangGe character is the most misunderstood character of all the characters. She has many layers that needs peeling and it's not obvious. The other character's progress is clear and not much internal conflict to battle with. They are more straightforward character.
