In my opinion if XL doesn't end up with XY in drama than it's better to keep the novel ending for him . There are many who want his character to not die & be friends with XY . But for me it will be horrible ending doing all the things for her & then watching her married with someone else is worst .
Novel ending was actually quite satisfying for his character he died protecting the people he cared about . He didn't have any regrets & died peacefully
