He knew that himself from the past would kill him because they are in a loop. I cant believe that a man who commands an army and decides people's fates is that dumb.
Some people may say that he doesnt care about dying, if the Yirim from the past can be king, so will be ok for him. Maybe that is the intention of the writer. But this isnt how the whole things looks.
Because during the whole drama there was no development about him. There's no development where you can say that he is capable of sacrificing his life for himself from the past. He is extremely selfish, and doesnt suit him give his own life so easily. The way Yi Rim from the past killing him demonstrates this very well, its without any excitation. Also the way he killing himself from our world. Its a selfish search for power and thats it soo howww
