The former because if I did the crime and would have in the same place as him, the easiest way for me to bid myself would be making a fake death threat against myself. I will be ruled out of suspicion and will be free to do whatever I want. Also since Squid might be a loop perceiver, he should be able to bide his time and do the stuff.
