WHY THE FUCK IS THE RATING SO LOWWWWWWW Im gonna strike
b/c ppl had to wait so long for the show to come out. The same thing happened to Cupid's Last Wish when it was only released in Thailand and not internationally. ppl just get salty. If the show proves to be worth the wait, then the rating will go up.
It’s been cute, a lot I mean A LOT of fluff and cuteness. But regarding this show I can’t help but to feel…
The only thing ppl really look forward to with Me Mind shows is the NC scenes, that's just fact. They always have mediocre writing and mediocre acting, but ppl always act like these shows are the second coming of Christ.
I usually don't like Earth's acting, and I have to say the same for this show. The actor is pretty diverse with…
I just want to make it clear that this comment was not made to hate on the actor at all. Hate was never my intention, but constructive criticism was. Critiques and constructive criticism of the show's writings, specifically how they write characters, isn’t hating on the actor. Someone might not share the same opinions as you on how good the show was, but that does not automatically mean they are hating on the show/actors. This is a common misinterpretation within the BL community. I have seen many people making valid criticisms of either the writing of a show, the production quality of the show, or maybe even critiquing an actor's performance; and they are met with a lot of hate from the shows fandom because people mistake constructive criticism as hate. This sadly blurs the lines between criticism and hate, but these two concepts have completely different end results. If someone hates on a show, they are just trying to spread hurtful and negative opinions to achieve nothing but making the fandom mad. Critiquing, however, is meant to point out something, in a constructive way and provide insight on how an aspect of the show could have been better. If the show is ment with only positivity, the production team is not receiving any useful information on how they can improve in the future. And there is always something you can improve on.
When I'm criticizing/critiquing the characters, I personally focus on how the writing team did at creating the character. I find that an actor can only do so much with a script and if they are screwed over by bad writing, there is usually little they can do. The critiques I made for this show were only directed at WS staff, seeing how they are the ones writing the characters, and Earth is just performing them. I do believe a show with bad writing can still be good based on the actors performances (i.e KP), but when a production studio is making essentially the same character over and over again, I believe it's valid to call them out on it, as the character they are creating is now being overly done and becoming boring to watch. Yes, there are some minor differences between the characters (as we should expect seeing how they are different shows) they write for Earth, but it's still just the basic character design with a new layer of paint every time. And to me, that is just lazy writing and typecasting.
Earth is being typecast, not because of the actos personality (as that shouldn’t affect his portal of a character if he is a good actor), but because of his looks. Earth has an innocent, baby face type look, and because of this he doesn't get roles outside of the childish personality type. I think a good way to get my point across is to compare Earth to Gun Atthaphan. Both do mostly BL dramas, both take on the uke roles, both are good actors (in my opinion), and both have a baby face. Now look back on all the works Earth has done, then look back on all the works Gun has done. All of Earth’s major past roles had him playing a character who is overall emotional, naive, and lacks the ability to protect themselves. But when you look at Gun’s past work, almost all the characters have completely different personalities to each other. The only difference between the two actors is that Earth is being typecasted for his looks while Gun is not. Not only is this negatively affecting Earth’s public image, but when/if he ever leaves WS, he might struggle finding work outside of this naive character design. WS’s typecasting of Earth is weakening his growth as an actor.
Now, the last thing I wanted to address is how I described his character as “childish”. By childish I mean the character (specifically talking about Eiw) acts childlike and is being taken care of by the people around him. As if he was a child. Like a literal 6 year old child. There is a difference between being young-minded and kind, and being naive/emotional to the point where you start acting like a literal child. And I believe that most of the characters WS writes for Earth either teeter on the line between them, or are just pain childlike. I think a good point reefpicker say is that Cake is being “irresponsible, and has no self control”. That’s exactly how I would picture a teenage boy to act. Selfish, thoughtless, and arrogant. But with Eiw it feels like I am watching someone act like a six year old boy, when he is supposed to be a 17-18 year old boy. This is a very common trope throughout BL (2Moons, GenY, LBC, Cutie Pie, etc.) and I can make a whole discussion about how toxic and damaging this trope is, but I will try to sum up my thoughts. A major problem throughout the BL industry is the fetishization of gay men/ gay relationships, and this trope is one of the biggest perpetrators of this. This trope, at its core, creates a power dynamic, where one party is the mature overly manly one, while the other is the “effeminate” submissive one. This furthers the stereotyping of gay relationships, where one partner is the man (husband) and the other is the women (wife) in the relationship. This toxic mindset is wrong on so many levels, and media tropes like this one promote the stigmatization of gay relationships. With 12%, this hasn’t fully played out yet, as only 7 episodes have been released, but I predict it will follow this trope, as the show has already laid the grown works for it.
One disclaimer I have is that this is all my opinion, and it's completely fine to disagree with me. The good thing about having freedom of speech is that we can come together on these forums and have discussions about how these stories are developing or how they could be better. I will still be watching this show and praying for WS to get their act together before Between Us; and I hope my opinions have gotten you thinking about what you believe could be improved on.
Honestly, KP can learn from this series... decent treatment of all couples fair screentime and there really no…
I'm confused, are there going to be full eps dedicated the second couple? Cuz as of right now half the eps are out and there has been almost zero development of the second couple
I usually don't like Earth's acting, and I have to say the same for this show. The actor is pretty diverse with his interests but the company literally makes him play a character that acts like a child in every show that he is in. It's so frustrating. I know he has a baby face, but holy shit the writing of these characters doesn't change from show to show. Does Wabi Sabi really have no other character ideas for this actor? If you are looking for a good BL, I wouldn't suggest this one. This is just my opinion, but it's been seven episodes and I feel like the same things are happening over and over and over and over again. In episode two, Cake gets a girlfriend then proceeds to ignore Eiw for the rest of the episode. And that storyline is the only thing that happens throughout episodes 2-5. Three hour long episodes of the exact same thing. Also with the lack of a diverse cast, basically only Cake and Eiw get screen time; so it's literally just hours of Eiw being sad and Cake being clueless. I get what they were trying to do, but did it have to drag on for so long? Now we are waiting for episode eight, and the time skip still hasn't happened and it doesn't look like it will happen in episode 8. Like holy shit six episodes of Cake and Eiw's deteriorating friendship, then two episodes of them just being sad, before any character development will happen? Really? Tbh all the shows that Wabi Sabi has produced since 7 Project have made me worried. The writing quality has gone down significantly and I'm scared that Between Us will end up like this show. Sorry, I kinda went on a rant there, but it's just really annoying when the actors are putting so much effort in and the show is still ruined by bad writing.
So we will have Kris + Gawin series - good for Gawin, it was really time for the main role for him. Just wonder…
Toptap left GMMTV?? Holy shit, GMMTV had an empire with some of the greatest actors/actress in the industry. Now so many of them are leaving because GMMTV is only giving main roles to their favorites and new hires. Damn.
I think early next year, or sometime in the first six months. It seems like they hadn't started filming yet, only the workshop. So i anticipate orginal release date was supposed to be November or December, but now they will have to do the workshop again and start the filming process. I think the earliest they can get it out by would be January or February, but they might push the release date back a few months to promote the new ship to drum up hype for the show.
I'll give you my opinion that I have written before, personally I think people are throwing this " Stockholm syndrome…
I agree that “stockholm syndrome” may not have been the best way to describe what Pete is feeling. I liked your explanation on it, it helped me see things in a different light.
I still feel like there is a problem with the romatization of trauma, but I feel this will change for me in the next two episodes. With “romatization of trauma”, what I mean is, the writers using Vagas trauma as an excuse for his actions. Trama is a reason, not an excuse, but again, I feel this will play out in the next two episodes. I haven't read the novel and don’t know what is coming next, so I feel my opinion will be finalized after the series ends.
This is an interesting storyline, I really wish they didn't push it to the last 4 episodes to play it out though. When dealing with heavy topics like this, I hope they don’t rush it so we can have a happy ending in four episodes.
Am I the only one who thinks this Stockholm syndrome storyline isn't cute?
Vagas and Pete's storyline was a huge disappointment for me, for the first 9 episodes they were cute. Then episode 10 and 11 happened where Vagas just tortured this poor man for some type of pleasure, then suddenly Stockholm syndrome comes in full effect, making it such a creepy storyline.
I feel like the romanization of r*pe and stockholm syndrome have no place in bls. In KinnPorsche, both of these things occur and I feel like the writers are romatizing these things. There is a huge difference between presenting morally gray characters/ storylines and romanticizing the actions.
This is obviously just my opinion, and I wanted to share it to start a discussion on the topic, and hear the opinions of others who watch the show.
