In the novel, there's no video game, it's something like parallel worlds. So there's no best friend for LQS. And it's definitely a happy ending.
In the drama, Gao Dawei and LJS have been besties since child, and when they're in college, they plan to create a virtual game. Because something or the others, Gao Dawei goes study abroad and work for game company that creates the spirealm. One day, he sent LJS the game's hard disk, and that's how LJS enter the game world.
Fast forward to the few finals ep, RLZ is an NPC that gao Dawei create to purify the game, but he has to work together with LJS. And when they come to 12th doors, RLZ proceeds with purifying the game, and the game goes back to the original state.
