Shoot I forgot what your op WS but anyway if you are looking for something a little more realistic I'd say some films prior to 1990. Everything after that has the place card propaganda. There are plenty of first responder type series. Remember they have no capitalism so you must understand the CEO bit matters there. Their wealth is from business. . I don't watch any of this stuff for a lesson or awakening lmao . It is 100% escapism and I frankly dgaf they are stuck on repeat. They chose that life. It has nothing to do with us. I think y'all need to accept these dramas are not for you. They are for Chinese first. They have messaging. Every wuxia is the same. Every historical is the same (reminder all the dynasty failed yet we get ten or more new dramas a year) . Every office drama is the same. It sounds like cdramas are not for you if you can't set your notions /requirements down before watching. I felt the same way a decade ago but quickly set it aside. I like /love them ever since. We just happen to have access to their entertainment. We are guests.
WAY too long to go in to here. Back in the day it was seriously rated M the books and the film. Then around 2015/2016 whole series were airing they CHOOPED them or pulled them. They ban everyone involved and their New World Face appeared. We can never know how & why Chinese citizens can write it and post it to read but can't use the key words like lgbt or gay etc or else it's deleted. Too much to write but this series is the closest thing since 2016 we have had and we are thrilled.

Book one has kidnapping sexual assault and extreme toxic male (WuBai character). That's the other issue we had. Only women wrote the novels and always raping TF out of the men then making them still hang with the rapist fall in love then most of the time boom DIE lol. Still they are great writers and script writers did wonders with several of the books. There are some nice ones that were produced and aired outside but not many recently. Although one was last year if I remember I'll add here later it made the rounds at the festivals. Enjoy!
