According to some Song Dynasty books, the two were betrothed when Yan Yan was young. But these are apparently considered unofficial records (not written by authorised officials. Unofficial records may or may not contain an element of truth) as this article (about the tombs of Han De Rang’s adopted sons) said that official records do not mention this.
It was said that after the Emperor died, to get Han De Rang’s support, she told him, “l used to be betrothed to you, now I’m willing to resume our relationship, the young Emperor (her son who was 12 years old then) is your son.” This is probably from unofficial records.
As to whether they married, there was probably no wedding ceremony. I read that in the 6th year of Emperor Shengzong’s reign, Xiao Yan Yan held a feast for all the officials at Han De Rang’s residence. This was later speculated by some people to be a wedding feast in disguise but I guess no one now knows for sure if it really was.
An official record about the Chanyuan Treaty described that a Song messenger saw them sitting side by side in a camel carriage.
There were also claims that Shengzong allowed Han De Rang to be buried beside Xiao Yan Yan’s tomb after his death.

Has Yan Yan even worried or cared about him since his return? Because base on the clips that I've seen, she talks and behaves in a very spiteful way towards him and it makes me wonder if she even ever actually loved him. Just saw a clip from ep 31 and the way she talks to him asking why he is leaving and if is base on the rumors he doesn't have to. But the way she was talking wow.
Was she even a little bit jealous or sad when she found out he was marrying Li Si?
I admit, I'm guilty of judging her because of those clips and some comments here lol. Base on the responses I'll decide whether ill continue waiting for the subs or drop this heart wrenching story lol.

Thanks. Wow and De Rang still loves her. So just like in The promise of chang'an, why do they make the ML masochistics and pitiful in this kind of stories. As much as I dislike the FL in The promise of chang'an, at least she only had one kid with the emperor and that was because she was basically raped. But here for someone who "doesn't love" she gives in quite easily. If I was De Rang I would just pack my things and leave that place with his wife, who I think is way more beautiful than Yan Yan.
