Watched this because of Hwang In Youp (playing Sanha), but ended up falling for the actor playing Haejun. LOL. They look like a younger version of Lee Joon Gi and Park Bo Gum. The main female lead also did so well that I fell for her, too! She has flaws, yet adorable.
I started the drama liking the male lead's mother (because of her bright personality and pretty face) and disliking the 2nd male lead (because he's like a crazy stalker of the female lead). But then I finished the series despising the mother, while falling for the 2nd ML (he's weirdly adorable). I really disliked the fact that the mom treated his son like a puppet. She's very controlling. She does not let her son decide about his life and relationships.
It has a lot of flaws. What a waste of potential. I'm happy with the ending tho. Just that, I felt like the events and timelines were scattered. Also, this season made me dislike Sun-oh even more. There's no character development. Jojo had but very late. Not happy with that. Only Hyeyoung, Yukjo, and Dukgo saved this series (well, at least).
When Sun Oh kissed Jojo just cuz he wanted to see his best friend's reaction, I couldn't tolerate watching it…
The first time I watched it, I also cringed on that part. The fact that Hyeyoung never approached Jojo bcoz she had a boyfriend, that showed how selfless he was. Then out of nowhere, Sun-oh came to test him despite the girl's relationship status which spoke how red of a flag he was as a best friend and as a boy. I gave Sun-oh a chance for a character development on the later parts, but nothing. This is the reason why Hyeyoung is wayyyyyyy better. The OG webtoon is way better. This is a pain to watch, tbh.
Kwak Dong Yeon as Kim Byung Yeon caught my interest. It's been 7 years since the last time I watch this. After watching Queen of Tears, I realized how amazing this actor is. I've seen him in dramas many times, and he can play different roles. His role in ths drama is my favorite role he played.
Rewatching this since I didn't watch it seriously way back in 2013. Now that I'm watching this, it's hard to keep up with the characters. It's overwhelming. Also, I don't find any chemistry between the two main leads. And what annoyed me is the female lead. Park Shin Hye's acting skills here were trash. It's so annoying, especially with her eye expressions. I'd rather see Kim Jiwon and Krystal's acting here.Kang Ha Neul carried his role IMO, not surprising tho. He's been one of the best actors out there.
these are the type of dramas you will love when you're newcomer in kdrama multiverse , with growing period , your…
It's always Lee Min Ho, but as someone who has watched majority of his dramas, I don't find him bad at all. BoF and The Heirs are one of the few dramas I didn't like. I'm also surprised how I loved BoF when I was a teenager, but now, nah. But I do love his dramas like City Hunter (the first half), Legend of the Blue Sea, and Faith. Highly recommended.
Hmm, so Park Min Young used to be actually pretty before the plastic surgeries. She looks so weird now.
So I'm not the only one who thought of this. I just finished 'Marry My Husband' a few weeks ago, and then I re-watched 'City Hunter' this week. The obvious changes because of plastic surgery made her current face not that attractive anymore, especially the nose and the chin parts. She just looks like those common Korean women who obviously underwent knives to achieve the typical Korean beauty standards.
Lee Min Ho is one of my high school time's favorite actors and he's my most-watched actor in Korea. His acting may not be the best in Korea, and his roles may not be versatile as well, but there's something about his acting and overall aura that draws me to watching his dramas. For some reason, the roles he'd taken always caught my interest. Maybe because I grew attached to his dramas when I was in high school and college.
'Boys Over Flower' opened the door to knowing him (but he was not my favorite back then, it was Kim Bum). I watched his next dramas after, but the memorability was not that high. 'City Hunter' is one of his most decent dramas and I did enjoy watching it, but I did not remember this so well. When I like a drama so much, a lot of its scenes remain in my memory, but this one did not. But I now understand why. I watched it with a young mind, not understanding the real world and politics. After re-watching it as an adult, I finally understood how good of a drama it was and how well Lee Min Ho carried the city hunter role.
Anyway, even though I did not appreciate City Hunter back then, 'Faith' was the one that changed my opinion about how uninteresting LMH's acting skills were. 'Faith' made me think that LMH suits actions, unfortunately, he mostly accepts romantic dramas. Then after re-watching City Hunter this week, this just confirmed how the action genre really suits him. Both 'City Hunter' and 'Faith' made me think that LMH's acting is not bad as opposed to what most people say on social media now. He's actually good! No wonder why he was regarded to be one of the top-tier actors in his prime. He does not just have the looks, he has some skills as well.
By far, the best dramas I've seen from LMH were 'City Hunter', 'Faith', and 'The Legend of the Blue Sea'. These are his dramas that I could highly recommend. I am eyeing Panchinko now. Gonna check it out when I feel like it.
I hope to see him more on-screen with a different kind of role (like what Kim Soo Hyun and Lee Jong Gi do). I want to see if there are more of his acting skills that he could bring out.
This drama was once a part of my youth like most people around my age say. Unfortunately, despite having a full 20 episodes, it felt like the last two episodes were rushed. I needed more from the president's point of view and how the city hunter's life turned out after his endeavor. Also, Kim Na Na felt discarded in the few last episodes. Even the ending for her was too sudden, and the role of her father felt so useless as well. I don't understand what happened, the half of the story went well but then the plot became a bit rushed, disorganized, and went nowhere.
I must say, this is by far the best character Lee Min Ho played (the other ones are his roles in 'Faith' and 'Legend of the Blue Sea'). LMH is not the best Korean actor in my opinion and not even versatile, but for some reason, the roles he'd taken always caught my interest. He is not my favorite actor either, but I did not even notice that he's my most-watched actor since I was young.

I didn't like the female lead for the first few episodes, good thing I tried and gave it a chance. Lee Min Ho kept me watching it, he's by far better here acting-wise than in Boys Over Flowers. Good watch. (I actually watched this on our local TV a long time ago, I just re-watched it)
Years passed, and I am rewatching it for nostalgia ^^ I just miss watching classics like this. The only thing I haven't seen from Lee Min Ho's dramas are the ones from Eternal Monarch up to the most recent. I wonder if I should start watching his other dramas again.
I submitted a review of this in 2016 and I am watching it again this year in 2024. It's funny going back to my first review, so cringed and the grammar was not grammaring.
But I must admit that the feeling I got the first and second time I watched it is still there. THIS IS STILL ONE OF MY FAVORITES AND I STILL HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT.
How I wish there would be a decent remake of this, a kind of remake that would give justice to the original. I am trying to watch the Thailand version, but given the ratings and reviews, I am very hesitant. Maybe I'm gonna watch it when I feel like it in the future. They said the Chinese one is trash, so I won't bother watching that. I wish that there would be a Korean version of this with quality production and nostalgic and heart-touching OSTs like in this original drama. I think it's possible since K-drama adaptations like Moon Lovers are pretty good.
