Agreed with your review and was thoroughly disappointed with season two. The writers reduced complex character to mary sue extravaganza riddled with bad acting.
My biggest gripe with this drama is that the main characters kept doing bad things and everyone still kept cheering them and nobody held them accountable. It's like the writers didn't understand that what they made the characters do was actually bad. Xufeng sleeping with Jinmi while she was still engaged to Runyu was awful. But everyone was happy about it.
I don't think Tantai Jin was born evil. Evil people do evil things. He didn't do anything evil. He even became the devil god to save the realms. "Evil" was just some arbitrary thing the writers imposed on him without actually writing him as evil. Inconsistent plot, inconsistent characters - saying one thing but doing the opposite. Tantai Jin kept saying how Susu showed him love and changed him. I wonder when that happened - when she put nails in his heart or poisoned his food or lied and went behind his back repeatedly, or told him absolutely horrible things that kept breaking his heart until the very last episode. Even her tears at the end crying in the tomb were unconvincing because she did so many awful things to him all the time.
Admittedly, he was a little creepy at the beginning talking to rats, birds, and insects. But that didn't last for very long. All he ever wanted was love which was never given to him. Susu was horrible until the end. Tantai Jin deserved better. The story would've been 10000x better if he said F this and burned the whole thing down.
