Spoilers for Ep 11 if you haven't yet watched it. . . . . . .
Episode 11 almost delivered exclusively on what I expected at the end of episode 10:
* The marriage didn't happen * Wan confessed her love to Kim * And Kim confessd that she dreams about Wan in the same way as Wan does about Kim, something which the show has to date not shown us. * Ae succumbed to cancer * And Kim and Wan moved on with their lives
I found the chemistry between Kim and Wan to be still underwhelming, nothing like the actresses' public appearances. It is as if the director told them not to let their natural charisma shine though. In fact, the love scene in this episode was less convincing than the fake one in ep. 8.
Plus the episode's pacing was very slow for an almost showdown. At the beginning I thought, Sammon would need all of parts 1+2 to let Wan/Kim leave and be happy, knowing very well that they love each other. In parts 3+4 things came almost to a halt and the show dedicated itself to secondary storylines once again (apart form Ae dyning).
Also, this leaves almost nothing to be resolved in ep. 12. Other than dealing with Marvin, who apparently becomes a sore loser and tries to sabotage DREAM Corp., there would only be Wan's carreer, if she even remembers she was a promising actress once. I think I can wait until August 7th to find out and don't need steaming tickets for the finale. :-) Let's hope "The Loyal Pin" (Aug 4th) has more story and better pacing to it. and we will have long forgotten this strange show when the finale airs on YT.
To end on a more positive note: I found the confession scene to be good, it was the best scene with Kim and Wan outside of dreams.
Well, episode 4 was a surprise fun ride. I laughed pretty much the whole time; the highlight was the restroom squabble between Ratee and Earn, because it was so childish. Earn needn't worry, though, Ratee is no real threat to her relationship with Lada.
I'm not so sure about Engfah, though. Sure, she claims to support Earn in her quest for Lada, and she helped her most of the time - but in between these moment of support, something else seems to shine through, and I'm not convinced she isn't covertly still pursuing Earn - like she told Lada near the end of the episode.
Speaking of Lada and Earn this episode largely only worked because of their near-perfect chemistry, with the borderline-silly plot. But for now, this works. We have reached midpoint of the show, so I expect things to get darker again very soon.
Favorite line of dialogue: "If I'm from the low-end market, you must be from the black market." LOOOL
Well, no - that title still belongs to "Show Me Love" (which didn't even get basic storytelling right). But IMHO, it's worse than "Love Senior" (which completely derailed in the second half with ludicrous develoments, *two* card accidents and barely managed to get to a decent ending). I think "Gap" spoiled us expecting every show would be like that one. I hope "The Loyal Pin" will be a return to form, though - what worries me a little is that the teasers show no real plot, only Anil and Pin in various "spicy" situations. :-)
I'm pretty sure I'm going to suprise some people here - but well, I kind of enjoyed this episode 10. If only because they thankfully decided to not drag this out any further and reveal the "big secret" (ha ha!): Kim loves Wan as well.
Before that we had an hour of pure, stupid stupid Wan. She should have read the letter from the lunchbox right away - but that she actually threw it away required a degree of stupidity I previously thought she hadn't in her. At the latest, she should have read the letter when Kim ended their conversation with "I give up." - of course, she was devastated because of Wan's nonchalant reaction to her letter. Wan should have noticed that.
Before that, nothing much mattered - not the talk she had with That Marvel Guy (tm), where she wanted to make sure he loved Kim - but could she be sure from that conversation? We already that he could talk his way out of any problem.
The bit with Mali and Sammon about digging up the lunchbox was way too drawn out, and really not all that fully. Once again the creators of MMDIY know how to take any velocity out of the proceedings.
It was nice to see Wan get into acting again, the one scene we got with her was pretty badly acted, though.
I laughed of the dream/nightmare scene Wan dreamt up, because Marvin looked ridiculous in the black outfit. Please Heng, never play a Vampire - I might not survive this. :-)
The question is: what will happen in episode 12? I'm pretty sure what will happen in episode 11 (haven't watched the preview, though) as the wedding as almost underway, but for 12, I have no idea.
I think the show is being dragged down by pacing issues and poor storytelling choices. Also, most of the time…
Yeah, fleshing out the secondary characters is okay, but it feels like we are knowing more of Samorn's failed enterprises than of what Wan actually does.
And you are right, the dream sequences show much more chemistry; I just excluded them from my summary because they are not real, and kind of hang in the void. At this point, I couldn't tell you whether Kim actually shares these dreams, if she has dreams of her own of Wan, or if she is totally oblivious to Wan's dreams, because the show has shown us nothing of consequence in that regard.
I'm still watching because I've invested so much time already, and am curious to see how much they can screw up the endgame; but I'm well aware that I'm trapped in a Sunk Costs Fallacy. :-) I seriously hope Idol Factory's Next GL - the Loyal Pin - will be a return to form.
I don't think it's a bad series and am still watching it. I think the actresses did a great job, but the adaptation…
I think the show is being dragged down by pacing issues and poor storytelling choices. Also, most of the time the two leads show at best sisterly affection for each other; it says a lot when most of the TikToks by FayMay and background material show more chemistry than the show itself. Then, the show wasts so much time on stupid, silly subplots like the various business endeavors of Samorn, or Baby staff with Mali that this drags the tempo of the main narrative to a halt. Plus, characters tend to disappear for ages on end. How much of Toon & her lady have we seen in the last three episodes - one scene? Jessie is essentially off the show as well, and she was presented as the main villain early on.
I thought the show was on a good track by episode three, but then episodes 4 and 5 essentially did nothing to make us the characters together like more. Episode 6 (the flashback one) showed us the the pair had feelings back in high school (more than 10 years ago), but apparently never dared to act on it. Episodes 7-9 contain multitudes of missed opportunities. Now, the the fake/forced marriage plot comes into play - but the show hasn't shown us a compelling reason why we should root for KimWan in the first place.
I'm wondering how much of the show can still be saved in the final three episodes.
Episode 3 was a little frustrating; Earn's behaviour went from cute, if a little childish last week to clearly over the line this week. To intentionally harm themselves by causing an allergic reaction is clearly reckless, and she was rightfully accused for that. Doctor Thaen then made clear that Fahlada barely got over Earn the first time, and that Earn should stop acting so selfish.
I said it last week, and I say it again: Earn's only way to move forward is to come clean about the breakup and hope that Lada - with the knowledge that it was her mother's intrigue that caused it - can find it in her heart to forgive Earn for her part in this. But judging from the preview, we're instead getting a jealous (and drunk) Lada, oh, well...
That's why someone said Kim could lied to her because she didn't want to ruin their friendship but that's a bit…
Well, I wouldn't call that a slow burn - perhaps a slow simmer would be more accurate. But I would have expected some kind of romance between the two, by now; not just longing stares which the other side doesn't detect.
Why the h*ll is no one talking to each other? Episode 9 was sooo frustrating, because we know by now that Kim loves Wan and Wan loves Kim, but they just don't share this fact with anybody, let alone each other. The final act of this episode was a chore to get though, because somehow, the director want's to do a big reveal with a "surprise" that abolutely everyone and their dog saw coming: Ae wants Kim to marry Marwin. This was the worst episode by far; I think the show is dead-set on not showing us a Kim and Wan romance at all. Great idea: a GL without GL. Is the novel that bad as well?
That's why someone said Kim could lied to her because she didn't want to ruin their friendship but that's a bit…
I've seen the first and second episode of "The Secret of Us", and it's night and day compared to this show. I found the 2nd episode to be not as strong as the first one, but it's nevertheless really good.
That's why someone said Kim could lied to her because she didn't want to ruin their friendship but that's a bit…
I'm still watching for the same reason as you - I wonder how they will turn the plot around halfway decent, and how much GL is actually in this GL, but honestly, I feel like one of those gawkers who can't look away at a car crash.
That's why someone said Kim could lied to her because she didn't want to ruin their friendship but that's a bit…
I guess it's a possibility that Kim lied to Wan . But what would she try to archieve with that lie? Wan was clearly sad that this was a dream, so what would Kim get from lying. Unless she still wants to marry TMG, but then why are we watching this supposed GL? Well, the next episode is only a few hours away, I guess we'll find out then.
I stand by my opinion after watching the final episode: this story needed more room, i.e. more episodes, at least eight or so. The final episode felt incredibly rushed they had no time to conclude the story properly Faye almost disappeared, leaving Thul to execute their ludicrous plan of framing both Irene and her mother. Plus points for Aunt Jo who essentially talked sense into CJ and for Irene's and Night's (or should I say Engfa's and Charlotte's) chemistry. This show need all those minutes that "My Marvelous Dream is you" is wasting doing nothing.

Wasn't Wan supposed to be an actress? Did she give that up after she didn't get the part cause she didn't read for it?
