What makes this unique film work is Horikita Maki's acting. She's brilliant here, except you don't see the true power of this film until the second half of the movie. I'm glad I stayed to finish it.
Thanks for this article. I just watched Moon Child. After seeing Gackt in Time Spiral, I’m amazed at the charisma and rawness he brought to Sho. Amazing.
Just rewatching Kazoku Game for maybe the third time. Just episode one has me squealing. It's fun to know what's going to happen but not to remember how. Points for the most unpredictable character go to "Yoshimoto-sensei."
It actually is very similar to another enjoyable parody Royal Treasure with Luo Show, Huang Bo, Sun Hong Lei, Zhang Xi Ying, Huang Lei, Wang Xun, and Zhao Zanilla. I've never seen Running Man, but I imagine it's a lot like it but in a historical setting.
Lots of funny moments. It's primarily a parody of time travel, historical wuxia stories. That said, it stands on its own as a brilliant weaving of tropes and running jokes. This my first time seeing Wallace Huo in a comedic role. He's great. Everyone is. So strange seeing Dylan Kuo as a historical character though, I'm currently watching him in the Outsiders.
I came here after watching The Witness. Wow. Thanks for all the effort you put into this drama. I first discovered Luhan Fever (haha) when I found Fighter of the Destiny. At first I was struck by how short and babyfaced he was, but I came to take notice of what he added to the character. The more I started to root for Chen Changsheng to beat his destiny, the more I admired Luhan's expressions, vocal inflection, and how much he became the character. Then, I discovered Time Raiders for the sheer novelty of Luhan in a "modern" role. This was before I knew anything else. I remember being most struck by his dancing to avoid the booby traps. Anyway. Thanks, Cub for putting this together. Has YouTube finished subbing Fighter of the Destiny, yet?
I feel the same. I'm glad they didn't elaborate on the romance, but let it keep the hard-earned happy ending. I love the two songs, and how they echo the themes of the movie.
