Let's be real, the people he took out in the first episode weren't exactly innocent. They were all there to use him for their own gain and sect’s agenda. Like the woman he used the truth spell on. She was gonna try to be his concubine and then get pregnant and rise to Madam status in her sect. Even after 500 years the people who tortured and put him through hell still wouldn’t let him be. Sima Jiao's not some crazed killer. he's just eliminating anyone who wants to exploit or take him down.
