A law for broadcasting BLs abroad in China might seems like it might censor the show now. Even if you’re 100%…
Regardless of BL or not, that law was already there before this drama started airing according to DeepSeek. Obviously, the producers found a loophole and China Censorship Board can't touch it....BUT we don't want to jinx it. They're unpredictable and homophobic. They could un-loophole it at any time.
Key Regulations & Enforcement:
1. Mandatory Pre-Approval
- All content produced in China must pass review by the State Administration of Radio, Film, and Television (SARFT, now part of the National Radio and Television Administration, NRTA) and local bureaus.
-This applies regardless of where the content is distributed (domestically or internationally).

2. No Exceptions for Foreign Markets
-Even if a show is produced in China but only released on platforms like Netflix, YouTube, or Viki, it still requires approval.
- Example: The popular drama "The Untamed" (陈情令) had to pass censorship despite its global release.

3. Censorship Criteria
- Content must comply with socialist core values, avoiding:
- Supernatural elements (e.g., ghosts, time travel)
-Politically sensitive topics (e.g., Tibet, Taiwan, criticism of the CCP)
-Explicit violence, romance, or "immoral" behavior (e.g., LGBTQ+ themes often face heavy edits).
-Historical dramas must align with official narratives (e.g., "The Longest Day in Chang'an" was scrutinized for accuracy).

4. Consequences for Violations
-Unapproved distribution (even abroad) can lead to:
-Fines or shutdowns for production companies.
- Blacklisting of actors/directors (e.g., Fan Bingbing’s tax scandal led to industry bans).
-Forced edits or removal (e.g., "Boys’ Love" dramas were purged from platforms in 2021).

Why This Matters for International Releases:
-Global platforms (Netflix, Viki, etc.) must ensure Chinese-produced content has approval before licensing.
-Co-productions (like Disney’s "Mulan" 2020) must still comply with Chinese censors to avoid backlash.
-Underground Filmmakers risk penalties if caught exporting unapproved works (e.g., documentaries about Xinjiang).

Okay, I just heard a rumour that China just changed its censorship laws because of Chai Jidan AGAIN. The tea is…
Yes, AvenueX was talking about that on her "Justice in the Dark" review video...she mentioned that Chinese based productions need to pass the censorship even if they are intended to distribute outside of China which in JitD's case, it was WOWOW, a Japanese Company. So, I'm not sure about the timeline (I assume JitD was shot before RL) but if my assumption is right, the law was there way before RL started airing. My guess is...RL team has found a loophole to rid of that restriction. So did "The Sparkle in your Eye", another proper CBL with kiss scenes, which technically a Chinese based production sold to a Singapore company. I wouldn't be worrying about it too much.

I'd assume the reason everybody is eating this show up is because most currently airing BLs are not giving what they're supposed to give...some are okay, some just don't deliver. And usually people just stay away from giving criticisms to avoid getting attchked by the fandom. I was gonna wait initially but im gald i picked this up to fill my void for JitD.

Finally finished the drama. This is the first Xiao Zhan's drama after really long time (after The Untamed) I am fully satisfied with. I love the plot, the characters, the pacing, the story telling, everything about it. They carried the twists and turns and surprise elements from the beginning to the end of series and kept me on my toes entire time. Excellent drama!!

I should make a comedy about the Holocaust then (major s/), I mean I get your point but you don't seem to see…
No, you're missing my point. Let me put it this way so it’s clearer. Imagine there's an art exhibit featuring an artist renowned for her nude paintings, celebrated for their bold expression. You decide to attend anyway, only to later complain that the bold, nude imagery made you uncomfortable. The exhibit contains 24 paintings, and by the time you saw painting number two, you likely had a sense of the overall theme. Yet you continued past paintings three, four, and five, all the while criticizing the artist's work.

Of course, you have every right to express your opinion. But doing so in this context shows a lack of respect — not only to the artist and her creative vision, but also to her audience and the community that values her work. That's the point I'm making.

The snowflakes complaining about the characters... Do they even know who Chi Ji Dan is?! Her characters aren’t always green flags, and that’s the point. She’s an artist and she's well celebrated BL author of her generation. She loves creating complex, flawed, thought-provoking characters. Art is subjective. Not everyone has to like it. But coming online to complain day after day on the very thing the author is known for is exhausting. Be a party pooper somewhere else. There are plenty of cutesy BLs currently airing right now.

👏YOU 👏DON'T 👏HAVE👏TO👏FORCE👏YOURSELF👏TO👏BE👏HERE👏BECAUSE 👏THE👏COUPLE👏LOOKS👏CUTESY👏

Also, wishing a certain part to be left out of a story just because it doesn’t align with your personal views is like asking an artist to erase parts of her creation... it’s not just entitled, it’s absurd. I'm glad that the series creators decided to keep ChiJiDan' s esthetic.

I'm just curious why the Janitor didn't recruit Little Glasses (im glad he didn't). He was very ripe to become another mole better than YangXi. I mean, he's the perfect candidate.

Oh waitttt if it isnt Armin "accidentally" droping hints that he came back from the future....for 1000th time 🙄
I was assuming TD also came back for 2nd chance judging by his behavior...but he doesn't know who Charlie is. Theory out the window.

Please...Someone cast P'Gap a lead role. First I thought he wasn't into doing a BL but after I saw him in "The Secret of Us" (side gay couple), I know he's going to excel. He has the face, body and he can act. He just need a little nudge.

the following comment contains major spoilers...
I am kinda confused...Can someone explain the connection between the Organization/The Tribunal and the Janitor/the Reciter? if the Janitor is the old guy with the wheelchair and Pei Su's father was part of the Organization and the Janitor used to do the clean-ups of the Organization (or an advisor)? Pei Su's memory of the meeting in the basement with his father and the Janitor really puzzled me!...why did the Janitor change his motive to setup the Organization for the murders? the Zhou brothers are the head of the Organization (well one of them. the other one covers them up)...why didn't he just expose them in the first place rather than brainwashing the victim's families to become vigilantes/killers and leaving clues to Cap Luo to find out? how is killing Xiao Wu justified? SID has no beef with the Janitor nor YangXi. my head hurts thinking about it.

I really appreciate Idol Factory for making all their series FREE. For that alone, it deserves the top 5 spot. I am really enjoying this rom-com. My favorite out of all BLs currently airing ones.
