writers sometimes tend to overthink things, and ep 40 is an example of that. other than that, the show was written and directed wonderfully.

Duke Su's boys did not deserve to die after all they have done. They should have given them a happy ending too. At least my emperor survived.

The second half of episode 40 can easily be replaced by ep 40,5. it was unnecessary in my opinion.

Duke Su definitely inherited his stubbornness and sassiness from his grandfather.

Shen Yurong's suicide was not surprising, that man hates taking responsibility for his actions and he avoided it to the very end. The only thing he did right was killing the one who started it all, Wanning. he is the one the put up the best act amongst all of them. He was a mad man masquerading as a level headed man of society.

I love the way Wanning's world crumbled bit by bit in this episode. oh Wanning sweetie, we are just getting started.

people who have suffered like Wanning either create more victims or protect victims at all cost, and Wanning chose to be a freaking menace to society. The same suffering they inflicted on her she did it to Shen Yurong. She doesn't love him, she sees him as an object to play with when she is bored, she ruined his life for vibes. Not excusing the things Shen Yurong did but seeing how Wannig was treated? it is the same way she is treating him so this man is a victim of a victim. Wanning also tried to kill and still wants to kill Fangfei, plots against her brother and a whole lot of other things, thus creating more victims. As a woman I feel sorry for what she went through, but as a human I say shame on her, because how dare you crawl out of the belly of hell and still want to push others into it?
