@Lily, you might forget that people have different reasons to watch a drama, and some people need emotional connections with it. Replacements due to illness or something crucial is a different case, and of course those are inevitable. The thing is, a drama's story revolves on the main leads, so it's almost impossible to separate the main leads with the whole drama itself, unless if you are not invested in the main story line. Surely, some people can, but some others cant. It's the viewers' right to feel how they are feeling.

I was interested to watch it because I knew the novel and I wanted to see it on screen, considering that the drama had changed a LOT of things. Now, I'm more interested because of the director.

So, I guess that the 1st one should cover the part when Biyao was 'killed' ?
