Yes all the asian remakes were based off of the american show. the original show is super good and i recommend watching it if you like any of the remakes!!
I loved the japanese one but OMG I'm in love with this whole series. If GMMTV can do the same with the other japanese story adaptation, ill be so happy!!
The only way I found so far is through the NHK+ website. You'll need a VPN and google translate to translate everything in the page so you'll know what to do lol You can register to the website for free with just an email and a password (it will ask to put name and address too if you wanna keep watching for more than a month, but since the show ends in a month, it won't be necessary!)
If you need subtitles, the player has japanese ones and there's an option to place them outside the frame, if you do that and have google translate to automatically translate your page, it will translate them in english(or whatever other language you have chosen)...it's still google translate so no perfect but well, if you're desperate like I was that solution will be enough lmao
