i think night caused the car accident and made day eyes became blind
I read the novel in a eng translation but i lost the link but what I kindof remember is that it said while Day was talking to his dad he said that he blames Night because Night was drinking one night and he called and asked Day to pick him up and Day was complaining because they both know he has bad night vision when driving but he went and picked up Night anyways and Day ended up wrecking the car due to his poor Night vision. So he blames Night.
