It's a melancholic drama, in some scenes you won't even hear the characters converse but their acting, the scencenery,…
I thought the same when I started watching it. I watched 1 ep and dropped it, and here am I. 2 months later binge watching it because it is so refreshing! This drama has really something special and different from others but you've got to be in the good mood to be receptive to it. :)

What scene are you talking about?
Oh yeah, I actually watched it yesterday night... and you're right I couldn't sleep. I feel like that's the whole movie's effect on me. That scene was scary indeed! Poor priest went there with his own feet T-T

At the end the Korean shaman is the one who is collecting all the pictures of his victims, He was lying the whole…
The shaman got possessed since the ceremony because Jon Goo interrupted it. So he wasn't always all bad. He's just not himself anymore.

Title The Wailing Spoiler
this was a legit mind fuck whew!! so who's the evil one?
I think the woman in white is actually a ghost trying to protect the family over and over again from the Ghost who's the Japanese man. He's the antagonist and the one who captures the soul of the people he kills and possesses them.
So the thing is, when the Shaman tried to save the policeman's daughter, he told him not to interrupt the ceremony because it could provoke HUGE consequences. Unfortunately, Jon Goo didn't listen and thought his daughter was in pain (which was not the case, it was in fact the devil aka the japanese man who was in pain since the shaman was trying to kill him). I believe the consequence of the interruption was that the shaman got possessed by the japanese man afterwards (which was why he got the dead raven at his place). So when Jon Goo met again the woman in the white dress he didn't believe anything she said since he trust the shaman who was now possessed...
He lost his trust in her the moment he saw her wearing belongings' of people who died. And I think it's an important detail because both her and the japanese man had stuff of the people who died. I think the woman take their belonging to counterattack the wrong doings of the japanese man.
I think she was truly trying to save his daughter, and that's why she told him to wait for the 3 cackles since that would mean the spirit inside of his daughter would be trapped and would disappear. The trap was the bit of plant she put at the entrance of the house, and that's the one we saw at all the place where there was a family murder bcs she tried to help all these families before but just like Jon Goo they didn't listen to her. They broke the trap the moment they went into their home... Also at the end you see the shaman take a picture of Jon goo and his family's corpses bcs yeah he's possessed by the spirit .
