AI's dad is a no good piece of shit but he's so obvious about that we can't expect any better. Thus AI doesn't waste her time being disillusioned that her father cares for her in the slightest. It's shitty but it's upfront and consistent.
Whereas Mae dad is sneaky with his BS he tells us he wants Mae to win so she can be accepted by the company but he's so fake it's hard to take his words at farce value. not to mention emotional scars are infinitely more complex than physical ones just think about the amount of trust issues Mae will have when she finds out that her dad whom she would do anything for has been manipulating her the whole time.
