I don't watch old movies/dramas. But after I saw a US remake, I had to watch Japanese one.
It's touching and heart wrenching story. The movie was awesome, though old. The story and loyality of this dog just made me cry so much TT TT

I thought I've lost my anime-fangirl-friend completely when she didn't want to watch any of the asian dramas, because "animes are just better". But after long I finally convicted her to watch some dramas! She loved Taiwanese Skip Beat, Japanese Liar Game, and Korean You're Beautiful and MGIAG :D Now we're watching BIG together (though I didn't want to watch it because of some opinions.. But SHE wanted it so much, that I gave up :3 )
