Victor Ma himself said he is not suitable for romantic roles and he was never considered for this role (since his name didn't appear in the rumors ever) And since this is a big IP, there's no way he will get casted for the lead role as they needed someone who can carry the drama in terms of investment/ratings/viewership and VM is not there yet.

Even if Sang Yan is a single person, they were portrayed differently based on Sang Zhi's POV and his lover's POV. Additionally, they followed the novel aside from the grandpa plot and HK arc and TFF timeline is more accurate than HL as they followed the age gap between Duan Jiaxu and Sang Zhi.

Yep, there's a lot of discussion on xhs about the ending same on X and it's also the reason why I rated it 9 instead of 10.
Actually the drama was originally set for 16 eps but was cut into 15 after obtaining it's distribution license which is I think the reason why it affected the ending.
