Well, im one of those who said his talent is wasted in this drama.
Yes, the chemistry is insane that i was once blindly watch it just for the couple. Yes, it's popular that i actually get to know him from this drama.
However, after watching his other dramas it's when i realized his acting range. It's unfortunate not to take advantage of talent like Joseph to its potential. For me, personally, that's the reason i said what i said.
I think many of his fans who said that was frustrated by how this drama developed. I read some fans think Li Qian has had became more of Baoning shiny accessory than an actual character who has his own story arc.
I dont think a mere chemistry can take it that far without being supported by good coherent plot. This drama prolongs on silly /ridiculous/stupid plots far too long I eventually give up. I used to think it would get better and i'd stick for the chemistry. Didnt work for me, haha...
Dont take it as if it's a direct attack, it's normal not to like a drama. At least we all agree the plot is a MESS

I recently watch his short film "30" which won at san fransisco international film festival and his performance was intense there. Very different character than Li Qian. He filmed that at 20 i guess.
Expecting he goes award winning performance for character like Li Qian is errrrr.... Not realistic. It's ancient puppet anyway.
That's why im waiting more for his hong kong production "City Defender" . Based on real events, and handled by award winning team. From the news it's also said to be paying tribute to Hong Kong classic police/action films. Rumor also said Joseph is the only mainland actor join the production. Hong Kong production is usually grittier and darker compare to China's production, so i have HUGE expectation for it.

This particular writer seemed to be responsible for the palace plots/main plots, not the mess we were watching. Which means Miaorong and friends were written by different writers.
She did replay (before she delete her account) to few fans who questioned about the mess something like "you scold the wrong person. Please see the additional co writers list in the credit roll".
As of Joseph, Im glad i watch this series, even if I eventually drop it. Found a rare young actor who emotes all emotions well beyond his age. This series wasted his talent 🤬
What i learnt about watching this drama is not to have an expectation coz everytime i did, it turn out to be something else different and jaw droppingly distasteful. So the super angsty thing you expect to happen, might not even happen at all 😁

I think Joseph's performance is spectacular in here. He naturally switch between manly, sweet, cute, and funny very easily. I read from weibo the scriptwriter praise him for delivering "beyond expectation" performance.
I have dropped the series btw. Joseph is obviously NOT the reason this series is ruined.
I guess this series wasted its time on unnecessary fillers and or characters bcoz like many saying out there, the agency wanted to introduce or propel their new artists. That's ridiculous, really.
As of eps 25-30, i saw some clips, found it rather distasteful. Reading ya'll comments was even worse though funny, haha ...
Have yet rated this series, maybe latter. I give it 4 for now. If i got to watch real kiss from the leads i might add 2 points 😁 those 2 points are highly subjective, YES, but im willing to give it a slack if that ever happened 😄
