It's truly remarkable, in my years consuming BL and such, it's the first time I've seen a proper story of a straight man who was actually gay all along. And in a realistic way too, without being a weird fetish.
Excellent movie, beautifully realistic and very well made and performed. And with a great artistic sense without being patronizing nor pretentious.
This series has serious editing problems, and the last episode is a complete train wreck. The series seems unfinished as a whole, and the ending barely makes any sense nor does it resolve much of anything.
In fact it feels like an ending I would expect from some Chinese series because of censorship. It's werid, feels like it's missing one half, or like someone else took over the story at the last minute.
And what's with all these people here that think that a realistic ending by default must be sad? lol
This was really beautiful, it encapsulates quite well the feeling of loss and despair so typical of youth. A true coming of age story. Although I must say that the Korean roots are noticeable, especially in the ending.
And speaking of the ending, I would suggest to people who haven't seen episode 11 (originally a special) that, although it's beautiful, *don't watch it* if you don't want a very realistic ending. The ending of the series as it is is very good and is pretty much the same.
The series finale is the good ending, this is the realistic ending.
Both are beautiful, neither is really sad. But I would have preferred to have kept the series finale. Although I understand the realism and it is very close to me personally, at the same time I would like to think that there is a less repressive ending for all of us.

And I think the huge billboard that says Antarctica was actually just the poster that Junior always looked at from his cage and what he dreamed of visiting. I don't think it's the series telling us what they actually went to Antarctica.

First of all, I didn't even notice. This series is/was that good in that regard. Secondly, are you guys new here? This is a CHINESE series. Everything we had with this series is so much more than what you can realistically expect.

CONSPIRACY TIME: Between the text ending and the final scenes looking like flashbacks, I wouldn't be surprised if the producers filmed the whole thing as if it was a sad ending series and told the censors that the scenes used at the end were just extra footage for the ep 7 flashbacks, so they could sneak out a happy ending. That would explain how a 10/10 series had such a technically atrocious ending imo, they do what they can.
Whatever the case may be, I hope the best for all the team involved, Doing LGBT work like this in China is really tough.
