Basically his ex left him because she has breast cancer last stage so she didn't want ml to feel burden/sad after she passed yada..yada. They told him she passed away (later on she actually survived) so ml is living in guilt and hardly moved on.

Rewatching it atm. SJ probably is cold towards Karl but watching the drama, we get why she is like that. Karl is so weak for a man, whenever he's heartbroken he often drown in self pity while SJ thriving under pressure. Everyone often called her gold digger but her character did not showed us the gold diggin' attitudes like other gold diggers besides she's easily sway when she met wealthy guys or her dialogues with her bff, or Karl always mentioned money,money. Yes she loves money and materialistic but she's also working hard to earn it.
In this drama, the time gap is necessary for Karl and SJ as they both hurt each other and the time apart is necessary for their character to heal. We often see the time gap that are unnecessary use in other kdrama.

SA for me she has abundant of love in her life from kid to adult sans kidnapping incident, it makes her became selfish/self centered. It's like her motto is "What SA wants, SA will get!" Doesn't matter if she's poor or rich.
CR on the other hand is so independent, capable and can survive the corporate world and it's turbulence whether she's poor or rich. All she needs is love and sense of belonging from someone she called family which was deprived from her while growing up. She finally found that in EH and I'm so glad they found each other. They can face the world come what may. Yes, she makes good decisions for the company but when it comes to her identity as a fake heiress, she does her role so well for 20 years. Of course as a normal human being, she'll feel entitled a bit because of her sacrifices and talent, the company function well and thrive under her.

So scared to watch whether he will marry her after watched the eps when he chose her and engaged with her, preparing the wedding etc but so glad he called it off. Fuhh
