I assumed that XA mother and CX father were brother and sister, but XA mother called the grandmother " Master" and the Demon Tree said that the Queen of Xiyan had 3 sons and one disciple ( XA mother) who all died during the war.
There was so much going during the first episode that I didnt pay attention to it on the first watch.
That would make the scene where XA &CX promised to become each other true "meimei" & "gege" makes sense, because I was confused the first time, being pretty sure that cousins already think of themselves as siblings.
