I have really tried to understand the hype around Yang Mi and how did she manage to get so famous, but I don't.…
Haha I just want to know if this new drama will be any good but saw this long discussion.
Minoucha, it's all marketing. Yang Mi is not the only person who markets herself, there are other actresses too that are not as pretty / not even half as good at acting as Yang Mi but they can get just as famous too because they marketed themselves. It's all business and strategies. Yang Mi's acting, although not the best, it's still good and even a little above good.
Yang Mi slowly grew into people's heart too because she slowly climbed her way up and worked non stop. To me, her first known role was a support role as Guo Xiang in ROCH. In that role, she played extremely innocent, sweet, and kind that she won the love of so many people. While, just around the same year, she also played in Liao Zhai alongside with Hu Ge who just got very famous from Chinese Paladin. So her fame was already firm with those 2 projects. That put her at an extremely good start before she goes skyrocketing.
By the time she played in Chinese Paladin 3, she already had so many fans. That's why, although I personally find her role Xue Jian kind of a bit annoying sometimes, she actually gained even more fans since the entire drama overall was good and a big hit. Even with such fame, she didn't just market herself crazy right away. Many idols today got it easier than Yang Mi, all they have is 1 super high rating drama then the next thing they became the highest paid actors. But Yang Mi, after Chinese Paladin 3, she just still continued working very hard on so many projects, even just as the support roles only. It wasn't until Palace came out, she finally break the record. But then again, still, she didn't just market herself like today. It wasn't finally after TMOPB, she established her own studio. Today, she is like this today because the past she already done a lot already. It is very well deserving.
Couldn't get past first few episodes. Very disappointing, trying this one all because Baby Zhang is in it. Really surprised to see Rebecca Wang Yan's return! Her, combine with Yvnonne Yung and Gong Bei Bi still doesn't save this drama. What a waste.
She's really pretty and cute. I enjoy her acting very much. Didn't hear good reviews from her new drama Chong Er Preach so far, didn't look so interesting either. I hope she gets into good roles, she is well deserving of them.
Really great actress! I really like her from The Journey with Ma Ke. Not everyone can act like her without getting irritating and annoying. I hope she gets more notice and good roles to play in the future.
New fan of hers! She's beautiful and can act! Can't believe this is only her first drama and she is this good, I hope she gets successful it's nice seeing her on screen!
Only watched this because couldn't find anything else to watch, it wasn't terrible like how I first imagined it.
The good: - Female lead is pretty, reminds me of HK beauty Vivian Chow, even side casts are beautiful too such as the middle-aged nun and young girl Shi Tou. I don't know anyone else who would look pretty with those bangs and such bright AND glossy color lip sticks!
- Female lead personality is likeable and not annoying, acting is also excellent. - Voice actress for female lead sounds very beautiful! - Really nice props, no annoying CGIs and places are real. - Really good choice of colors. - Great choice of fabrics. That made the clothes look traditional. Sometimes the modern-mixed styles can be annoying. - Story moves at a good pace, although things get repetitive it didn't bore the hell out of me
The bad: - Storyline is really weak, for the most part it was the great acting from the casts that made up for it. - Unnecessarily more episodes than there should be. - Main girl was almost perfect until she kept being too nice to the evil annoying lady. - I like palace dramas, but things got so lazy at the last 1/3 which involve the palace stuff and it was not interesting.
Overall I feel this new adaptation is too slow but the new actress Yukee is very pretty. She really matched to play Zhao Min. I just think the story wasn't being told in a very fascinating or creative way. This story gets remake over and over since the 80's or 90's five or six time already, but everytime they are still very interesting and exciting to watch. I only don't like 2009 and 2019, they are too boring and it's nothing about the color or actors, it's how they scripted it. I don't have much hopes for Wuxia dramas anymore but I'm sure there will still be more remakes in the future and hope they will not only get worse and worse.
Rather than not liking her acting, I don't think she's been given decent roles. Her roles are usually childish…
Thank you! I would say the same too. All her roles sucks so I would not say it's her acting that I didn't like. Many people are excited for The Pillow Book, I'm actually believing it's going to be a bad one. Her role as Feng Jiu was a bit annoying, just the role, not the acting.
Used to be so in love with this lady. She's not that flattering in modern clothes but she is the prettiest woman in ancient clothes. Kind of like they way I see Leung Siu Bing too, they are such classic beauties born in the wrong modern dynasty.
Seriously? That picture is her??? She is a great actress, only saw 2 of her dramas. Watched Fairy of Liaozhai and The Yang Warriors, she's very cute and talented. Hoped she had done more dramas than that.
