LOL I had to laugh. I watched Marumaru Tsuma and wanted to see on what Kou is working this year and than that synopsis. If you watched Tsuma you know what made me laugh.
Higashi played it too camp for my taste. I just couldn't believe he was all that inspiring or special as a newscaster.
That's one of the worst parts, he was just a coward hypocrite and a very bad husband. Hard to say who is more delusional, if the character of the person who wrote his character.
I still need to watch the last episode, but can already say: don't recommend. The "themes" are interesting, but unfortunately this dorama has nothing good to say about them, worse, it just reinforces what's wrong about them. And the penultimate episode had a big and obvious "plot hole" that's impossible to not notice and annoyed me greatly.
Overall isn't a very good drama, and the performances a bit subpar.
About the "spoiler", isn't really a spoiler. If you don't get 90% of what the mystery is during the first minute you're pretty dense.
It amazes me that they found that one single bad child actress to play the young Otowa, because every single one child actor in this does a good job and it's the one blemishes in the drama. Very good, very well made. I would watch all over again immediately but first I must to muse about Kou Shibasaki watching her other works.

It was a good "drama", but if you think about it it FAILS HARD on being about the "supposed central theme", that is, single parenting. It was almost dropped sooner than latter in the story and turned into something else. The subplot about the father was simply "bad". Pushing the children to the grandparents is another problem, what were they thinking!?
Falta apenas o último capítulo de Mother 2018. Difícil de eu saber "é melhor que o original? gostei mais que o original?". Gostaria de poder ter assistido essa versão sem ter assistido a original. A princípio não gostei de terem inserido drama policial, mas se for comparar pontos fracos o original tem aquele repórter que sempre achei ruim e babaca e essa parte policial nessa nova versão conseguiu surpreender positivamente. Como disse no início, "outra sociedade, outras prioridades". O drama da mãe da menina, a biológica, no original pra mim ainda foi a melhor parte. Foi realista e simples, trágico, no fim você acaba tendo pena dela. Ela ainda tem culpa pelo que aconteceu mas você sabe que é uma história que não é rara, e que ela sofre por isso. Mas enfim, apesar de terem exagerado com a mãe biológica nessa nova versão ela acaba sendo do mesmo nível. As morais sobre ser mãe são um pouco mais didáticas mas válidas (e há até uns comentários sobre paternidade, talvez) só que você quase nem nota. Essa série não tem mais episódios atoa, a roteirista adicionou uma grande quantidade de conteúdo original de qualidade. Não sei qual recomendar, pode ser as duas, tanto faz, você escolhe a que preferir assistir.

Can you tell me where I can find subtitles? The episodes are easy, but the subtitles are the problem. I want to try following this one, would be my first asadora.
Descobri apenas semana passada desse remake, assisti apenas ao primeiro episódio agora. "Como eu temia", a fotografia e atuação não parece ser tão boas quanto a do original japonês mas não vamos que é pior do que é, apenas não é tão bom e é difícil uma produção para TV ter a mesma qualidade do original japonês que pra mim foi altíssima. Está dentro do padrão.
Algo que eu notei muito nesse primeiro episódio e é positivo é que não quer ser apenas uma cópia do original. Notei vários detalhes diferentes que devem afetar muito o significado dos dramas. Agora é assistir e ver como irá se diferenciar, e faz sentido ser diferente. É outra sociedade, com outras necessidades. A única coisa que posso questionar é o que vi da mãe da menina nesse episódio... e do namorado dela. No original o namorado não era tão psicopata e a mão não era tão inocente e era mais complexa... novamente, diferente sociedade, diferentes necessidades. Espero apenas que façam algo bom com aquilo.

You lost his patience with him fast, played by all sides all the times, zero pride, the perfect example of what was so wrong with all that tradition and systems paralyzing and hindering the country. And to crown all that stupidity, Yoshinobu, another fool, depending so much on him. Infuriating.
But, I'm near the end and I didn't expected "that"!
