Thanks for an amazing article, i thought about it and its nice someone made an article about it ... Sigma was surely an interesting character and was really well acted...i hated him initially but towards the end i quite sympathised him...he was physically abused in childhood so developed hatred towards the society...even when he was victim (when the leads try to shoot him even tho he haven't done any evil) society was incredulous towards him...he grew alone showing symptoms of ASPD but still people around him were unwilling to help him (eg, the police officer knew he had some problem but instead of referring him to hospital he asked for a apology letter)...but i think his acts are really not justified tho they could have really been stopped a lot earlier by the act of kindness talked in last ep...
The character start as the classic big bad villain, but his background scene add a lot of thickness to him. As well as his work as a painter. The actor was very good for portraying him. One thing important about him : the way he create dilemna as pitfall. For him, it's always the choice of others that is bad, it's always others that are selfish. First of all, welcome back to the MDL writing world, Wiam ;D! I don't watch Sisyphus, but I have admired Kim Byung Chul since his multiple roles in Goblin. Whether taking protagonist, antagonist, or gray character, he nails everyone of them! Excellent study of a certain drama character!
What a thought provoking analysis. When Sigma's backstory was explored during the second half of the drama, my perception of the man changed somewhat. Oftentimes we perceive villains simply as a necessary plot element, without whom there would be no heroes to be celebrated in the story. I appreciate that this drama doesn't just paint the world as black and white, and that it gives us the viewers different facets to consider.

well as someone who just finished watching it today ..i have to say you wrote it beautifully with minimum amount of spoilers ..!! great job well done ..!! we often tend to ignore villains as they are considered a necessary element for the story to progress and end up ignoring the reason as to why they chose the path that they chose ....what i liked about the show was that they repeated it more than once when the villain said ~ had anyone asked him not to die and he wouldn't have tried to ....had anyone been warm and helpful he wouldn't have tried to end the world around him...the ending given to him makes me happy .... also i dare not forget to mention the actors did a great job in portraying sigma ..!! both the child actor as well as kim byung chul !!
Oh what a nice article giving a voice to some discussions I've had or seen ever since the show aired. You managed to write very-well without major spoilers given. It's concise and straight to the point : I hope you'll write more articles in the future ! I might have liked a tiny bit more explanation on the disorders since I'm not familiar with them myself but overall I understood your point clearly.
Sigma was a good vilain. I guess some people found him too extra for their taste but I really liked him and above all I loved Kim Byung Chul, he was perfect for the role. Sigma's backstory really gave him more flesh and makes us wonder. While I do not excuse nor condone his actions, he still is a man who was failed by his family, his peers and society.
I want to thank you for writing this review. If it wasn't for it, I would've missed this gem of a drama. Also, because of this show, I have a new appreciation for Choi Kang Hee, and like you, I think I fell in love with her.

Just watched it and I think she really died out of an overdose of propofol. But Seung Hoon got rid of the body because he was providing her the anesthetic illegally. That would at least have his medical license revoked. So he was indirectly guilty about her death and directly guilty about her disappearance. But for him to chop off her head and to get rid of her limbs so she would not be identified was really too much. Not sure if the loan shark was the one to dismember her and he just gave Seung Hoon the dismembered body in the case for him to just get rid of it or if it was all done by Seung Hoon.

I watch a lot of KBS drama special. Short and sweet. Some are really good in term of acting and storyline. Does KBS continue firming the drama special every year? A lot of them are free on U-tube.
