Lol, BoF scarred me so bad, (it was my 4th I spose?).... it turned me of k-dramas completely! xD
Genuinely, BOF turned me off kdramas. And then my friend insisted before i tried one again. The thing is that I didn't like it at all. But that's just my opinion. It's not a consensus. Same way I am sure mny people started and stayed in kdrama world due to that show. Again, that's their taste and opinion. I completely agree with you that it has a lot of traffic, personally that is what boggles my mind.

Anyways, i hope i didn't offend you or sm. Also, tbh i hope younger people don't fall in love with BOF because it just sends a really bad message into the world abt love and relationships. While i do like the manga, the whole story is a bit toxic.

LOVED your comment. I agree with everything you said. I watched the Korean version of BOF when it first came out,…
Agreed. The korean version's osts were pretty good lol.
Also ikr! I have disliked the male lead in every other version too. Tbh, even the FL felt too melodramatic/violent.
Thyme and Gorya are truly endearing in ways no other version has been able to achieve. They aren't the best actors since it's their first show, well not Bright's ig. Still, the whole cast has a certain charisma to them. Ren's character, too is more than just the cliché of good, calm sbl.
All the characters i think are more human and real in this version, maybe that's why it's easy to like them.

Agreed! Also on the fashion part! Thyme looks like a wild child that no one ever helped dress… which is probably…
Yes! Completely agreed, everyone just really has their own vibe and energy about them that compliment the characters they are portraying. Well, that's acting and costumes i suppose haha.

Yep haha. That's what lol. Not to mention 2009 hairstyles are a huge no- no. 😂 well, I am not korean and I only started to watch international series when i was like 16- 17. So I ofc googled, and it said that BOF is a good starter. (More like a turn off lol). But yes, the idea of what a good series changes a lot from 2009 in the next ten years. Seriously ig back then people cared very less about making sense, stories and characters. Cliches were mostly preferred.

Wow, not quite the amount of time xd. But then again i started kdramas in 2017 so at that point of time, much better kdramas had been made afte BoF. Seriously though, Bof was scarily bad lol

I didn't get the hype at all! Since it was my first, I didn't try anything for a 2-3 months before starting with what's wrong wrong with secretary kim? And well, suffice to say that seriously swept me off. And now i'm a huge kdrama nut. haha

This was my first Chinese drama. I really enjoyed the first half of this drama, but like every chinese drama I…
watch you are my glory, love o2o, put your head on my shoulder, a love so beautiful, etc. those are good and keeps you hooked until the end.
the long ballad is a really great historical drama.

Quite honestly, I think this is the best version of Boys over flowers yet. Unpopular opinion, I though the whole franchise was a no-no after watching the korean version. and that was my first k-drama, and I had sworn off kdrama for quite a time before trying another one.

I have watched half of the chinese version and that was just too long and draggy. This version seems extremely well made and the screenwriter has done tremendously. Hope this continues throughout the 16 eps.

I am loving Ren's character. He's sweet, charming and really handsome, but he also has flaws and a temper. What he did to Gorya wasn't right in ep 3 but the thing is its a humane response, we'd all react similarly, and that's what I am loving about this version- its real.
The bullying seems more like something that can actually happen rather than a shitty trope with too many potholes. The struggle Gorya has inside her, because no matter what- Its not easy to fight back. (while in the other versions, mostly i find the girl either too melodramatic or unnecessarily violent in some cases)
Thyme too is endearing in a way i have never found any other version to be. He's cute and sweet, and struggling internally to prove to his mother that he amounts to something too. Sometimes, we do shitty things because that's what we see the grown ups around us do, we imitate their actions because if they are doing it, why can't we even knowing it's not the right thing to do.

All in all, I think the characters in this version has a certain appeal to them that's not present in the other versions. Here, they all have multiple dimensions and are not just present to represent a certain cliche.

PS- To all the people commenting on Thyme's fashion sense, its a production decision on how to dress him. Also, I think they wanted him to portray the inner child and to grab attention.

Title The Long Ballad Spoiler
I don't even think we should compare the manhua and the drama as the screenplay will obviously have changes. And it does have drastic changes like Ashina Sun is in Chan'an right from the beginning. Also, Leyan's character is new in the drama, and the side plots are different like A'dou dying, etc.

Both stories are different, however they are really great ones in their own right. The actors are really justifying their roles and it's a very engaging chinese drama to be honest if you haven't read the manhua before and even still. The only difference is the readers have different expectations from the story.
