Wait until you learn the original novel had him dating the female lead for quite some time and it's only bc the…
While I understand that his character may not appeal to everyone, you can't deny that the actor playing/portraying him is good. He clearly elevates the typical/cliché SML archetype making him charismatic& nuanced rather than annoying and THIS takes some skills. Give same role to anyone less skilled and I assure you that no one would give him the time of day. He is a scene stealer.
Dai Xu is imho the very definition of being not conventionally 'handsome' but his acting is very effective and do the talking here hence making him charming in the eyes of the audience imo. (already noticed him in 'The Unclouded Soul' and 'A Dream of Splendor')
Liu Yuning fall in this exact category. He might not be the most handsome guy out there but boy sure knows how to captivate his audience with just his mere presence on screen. His talent+ the fact he's hard working make up for everything else.
As for Pei Zhen, I personally didn't ship him with the FL (I was💯rooting for our main CP) but I totally understand the hype. Dai Xu deserves the praise and the attention. Man is criminally underrated after all.
My biggest regret is having a little sympathy towards Pei yesterday. An apple really doesn’t fall far from the…
Sigh...I'm mostly disappointed with the writers here...you have a complex/layered character, well-acted that could have been a catalyst to the resolution of the conflict in helping the leads against the Big Bad(and could have served as his redemption arc in the process)but no you decide against it and take the easy way out... Destroying 2ML character development and make him appear as a total sicko obsessing over the FL, forgetting all dignity and common sense (he knows his father is shady as hell but still chose to throw ML under the bus because of petty jealousy 🙄 Been there done that. Typical cock-block behavior here...nothing new and refreshing *still hope previews are misleading but I won't hold my breath for it🫤*)...all kind of redemption is out the window now. I trusted you drama. You let me down.
PS: still love main CP nonetheless 💋❤ Chen Xing Xu pleasantly surprised me here...never found him attractive in the past but he's quite dashing in this drama...him and Lu Yu Xiao look fabulous together.
The Weibo video is fake. Compare the very first review on your video - on Douban it is 5 stars both on the Douban…
Insulting one's appearance is a legitimate review in your opinion? Most 1* reviews are 'hate' contents. While I agree giving full marks is also biased and needs to be equally dealt with by Douban (Examples: Cheng Yi is the best actor in the world, he is the most handsome blah blah); Positive or negative, more than 'one-line' reviews, well structured/rational ones should remain imo.
I heard Douban still has the final say in the end (even if platforms have very high control/influence over the score openings)
Edit: As a Cheng Yi fan, I don't particularly think I'm biased towards him or his works...I rarely give full marks to a drama...his series are no exception. I gave for instance 8.5 to 'Journey of Legend' and 7.5 for 'Sword and Beloved' Do I think they deserved such ratings? Not necessarily. Why did I gave such score? Mainly to counterbalance a bit the negative reviews (1 star)...IMHO JOL deserves at least a 8 (7.8 is way too low)/ Sword and Beloved was a disappointment (giving it 7.5 was me being generous here)
I did the same for 'Love of the Divine Tree' (now that it has stabilized, I may lower its score during the year) As for 'The Vendetta of An', my true rating---> more around 8.6 (MLC and Love&Redemption are still my favs shows of him)

Video might be fake but Douban can't escape accountability either (why give a cool off period to 'The Longest Promise' to shield it from fanwars/hate ratings for example but throw VOA (or even others) to the wolves to be slaughtered by the antis *double standard much?*
I also have a Douban account and I clearly saw VOA's page being bombarded with 1 star reviews in the first days of its release (mostly antis instigating fanwars/rival groups etc...) Meanwhile, later, Douban decided to clean/purge the page from bots/new accounts and kinda changed their system (probably punishing users who genuinely enjoyed the show in the process) ... deleting countless reviews which they deem dubious. Many 5 * reviews were removed...I also noticed many people giving 4* instead probably fearing their reviews would be deleted as well (something similar happened to JOL2). In the end, most positive reviews got removed while a lot of negative/nonsensical ones remained untouched (disparaging main actor's looks, acting or totally unrelated stuff). Faulty system is faulty.
As of now, paid bots/antis/whatever you want to call them keep on giving and writing 1* reviews to the show...At some point, Douban will need to get their act together.
Douban 6.9 ~310k votes.Seems a bit low. I thought it would at least break 7.0.
Anyone surprised though? Haters worked extra hard to drag down the ratings. You can't fight a losing battle...Since MLC success, Cheng Yi has unfortunately attracted a bunch of parasites and they're headset in destroying his career 😔
