Maybe she felt repentant for her cruelty, but she is still think cruelty is a good way to do things. Maybe you are seeing a different show, I never felt she is trying to be more understanding, what I always see is that she gets mad at him everytime he does something against her will even if it was a good thing.

And I see she get mad at him everytime he put a burden on her. And if she is not able to rise a son in a good way so that's better to sell him for money neither rising another bad person
